I see common mistakes each summer with people taking their dogs out and as it gets closer you need to be cautious !

1. Always check the ground! If it burns your hand putting it on the floor for 5-10 seconds, it will burn their paws.

2. Take a small bowl and water bottle EVERYWHERE! You never know when it is simply too hot for them. 5 mins down the road in the car? Bring it.

3. The max temperature you should be walking your dog is 25°C, take walks earlier in the morning and later at night to prevent heat stroke and dehydration
4. Taking extra time in walks to STOP! Find a tree to sit under for 5 minutes with your dog every 15-30 minutes depending on the weather, this will also teach your dog how to relax in open spaces - VITAL!

5. Considering alternative ways to stimulate them! Frozen lick mats, a pool or sandpit to play in/ cool off - even a trip to the pet shop for sniffs and cool air con.

Please look after yourselves and your dogs in the heat! It is no joke. As a professional we take every precaution necessary for your dogs to prevent heat related injuries.
