⭐️ Our Star of the Week is brave boy Biscuit ⭐️
Biscuit came to see us after becoming very poorly at home. He had a loss of appetite, vomiting, was lethargic, and just wasn’t himself. During his initial consultation, our vet discussed whether Biscuit may have eaten anything unusual, however this was quickly ruled out at the time. As another dog in the household had recently suffered with a stomach bug, gastroenteritis or a viral infection were considered the most likely causes, and Biscuit was treated accordingly.
Unfortunately, Biscuit showed no signs of improvement and returned to us for further tests. Blood tests were performed, which still showed nothing immediately concerning, but due to his ongoing symptoms, an abdominal ultrasound scan was carried out. This is when we discovered the real problem — a large foreign body lodged within Biscuit’s intestine.
Biscuit was admitted straight into surgery where our team urgently operated to remove the obstruction.
The foreign body removed was a women’s sanitary product. These items can be incredibly dangerous if ingested by pets, often causing intestinal blockages, tissue damage, perforation, severe infection, and in some cases can sadly become life threatening without urgent veterinary intervention.
Whilst this was the culprit in Biscuit’s case, many everyday household items can pose a serious danger to our pets, including:
• Socks
• Hair ties
• Toys
• Stones
• Food wrappers
• Sticks
If your pet is showing signs such as vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, or just “not being themselves”, it is always safest to seek veterinary advice as soon as possible.
Thankfully, Biscuit is now recovering well at home under his blankets after being an absolute superstar throughout his treatment and recovery 🐾💙
