💚 Helping pets and their families where we can 💚

We currently have 4 free 2.5ml Caninsulin vials available that are dated until the end of June and are free to anyone who may be able to make use of them.

We know that managing a diabetic pet can be costly, and rather than see these vials go to waste, we would love for them to help another pet in need.

Please note that veterinary history and proof of prescription will be required before these can be given away.

If you think these may be suitable for your pet, or you would like further information, please contact the practice and a member of our team will be happy to help.

Please feel free to share this post with anyone who may benefit 🐾

☀️🐾 New week, new adventures... and what a way to start it! 🐾☀️

Yesterday, we attended our very first ever event as Ardsley Vets at Pawty on the Green in Mirfield, and what an incredible day it was!

The whole team came together to spend the day meeting lots of lovely people and their four-legged companions, handing out leaflets and goodies, chatting about our veterinary and grooming services, and introducing visitors to some of the products and Calibra treats we stock in practice.

From wagging tails and wet noses to plenty of doggy kisses and cuddles, the day was packed full of fun, laughter, sunshine, and community spirit. 💚

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall to say hello, ask questions, support us, and let us meet your wonderful dogs. We loved every minute of it and can't wait to attend more events in the future.

Take a look at some of our favourite moments from the day in the reel below! 🐶✨

🐶✨ The secret to a stress-free adult groom starts when they’re still tiny! ✨🐶

Did you know that introducing your puppy to grooming from a young age can make a huge difference to how they cope with grooming as they grow up? Our puppy grooming appointments are designed to gently desensitise puppies to the sights, sounds, sensations, and handling involved in the grooming process, helping to build their confidence and make future grooms far less daunting.

To encourage early grooming and positive experiences, puppies that attend 2 or more puppy grooms with us will receive 15% OFF their first adult groom once they reach 6 months old 🛁✂️

Our puppy grooms are suitable from 12 weeks old (once vaccinations are complete) and include:
🐾 A full bath
🐾 Gentle blow dry on a lower volume setting
🐾 Thorough brush and demat where necessary
🐾 Tidying of the face, feet, and hygiene areas
🐾 Nail trim

We do not clip hair from the main body during puppy grooms, as this can interfere with the natural development of the adult coat.

Puppy grooming is about so much more than just getting clean. It’s about building trust, confidence, and positive experiences that will benefit your pup for life 💚

☀️🐾 With the recent rise in temperatures, it’s important to help keep our pets safe, cool, and comfortable during the warmer weather.

Swipe through our latest posters for helpful advice on:
🚗 The dangers of leaving pets in hot cars
🐶 Safe exercise during hot weather
🐱 Keeping cats cool
🐰 Heat safety for rabbits and guinea pigs

Even on days that may not feel “too hot” to us, temperatures can quickly become dangerous for our pets. Small changes such as avoiding walks during peak heat, ensuring constant access to fresh water, providing shaded areas, and never leaving pets in vehicles can make a huge difference.

If you are concerned your pet may be suffering from heatstroke, do not wait to begin cooling measures whilst seeking veterinary attention. Early intervention can be lifesaving.

If you witness a pet left in a hot car and believe they may be in immediate danger, please contact 999.

If you have any concerns about your pet during the warmer weather, our team here at Ardsley Vets are always here to help ☀️💚

🐾 Veterinary Nursing Appreciation Month 🐾

This Veterinary Nursing Appreciation Month, we’re celebrating our wonderful RVN, Julie 💙

Julie has over 10 years of nursing experience and also holds a certificate in exotic nursing, helping care for everything from our furry friends to some more unusual patients too 🦎🐰🐍

Her particular nursing interests are imaging, senior patient care, and supporting arthritic pets to stay as comfortable and happy as possible throughout their golden years 🩺🐾

Outside of practice life, Julie is kept busy by her 3-year-old daughter, her very tall husband, and her 10-year-old rescue dog from Romania 🐶 She loves exploring new places for walks and spending quality time with friends and family.

And, perhaps most importantly… her favourite veterinary word is “levetiracetam” — bonus points if you can say it first time correctly 😄

Julie’s knowledge, compassion, and dedication to both pets and their owners make her such an important part of our team, and we are incredibly lucky to have her.

Thank you for everything you do, Julie 🩺💙

⭐️ Our Star of the Week is brave boy Biscuit ⭐️

Biscuit came to see us after becoming very poorly at home. He had a loss of appetite, vomiting, was lethargic, and just wasn’t himself. During his initial consultation, our vet discussed whether Biscuit may have eaten anything unusual, however this was quickly ruled out at the time. As another dog in the household had recently suffered with a stomach bug, gastroenteritis or a viral infection were considered the most likely causes, and Biscuit was treated accordingly.

Unfortunately, Biscuit showed no signs of improvement and returned to us for further tests. Blood tests were performed, which still showed nothing immediately concerning, but due to his ongoing symptoms, an abdominal ultrasound scan was carried out. This is when we discovered the real problem — a large foreign body lodged within Biscuit’s intestine.

Biscuit was admitted straight into surgery where our team urgently operated to remove the obstruction.

The foreign body removed was a women’s sanitary product. These items can be incredibly dangerous if ingested by pets, often causing intestinal blockages, tissue damage, perforation, severe infection, and in some cases can sadly become life threatening without urgent veterinary intervention.

Whilst this was the culprit in Biscuit’s case, many everyday household items can pose a serious danger to our pets, including:
• Socks
• Hair ties
• Toys
• Stones
• Food wrappers
• Sticks

If your pet is showing signs such as vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, or just “not being themselves”, it is always safest to seek veterinary advice as soon as possible.

Thankfully, Biscuit is now recovering well at home under his blankets after being an absolute superstar throughout his treatment and recovery 🐾💙

Well… this sweet little lady decided that bath toys are apparently a snack now 🦆👀

Her owner gave us a call after she managed to swallow an entire rubber duck whole, and she was brought straight into the practice for treatment. After being given medication to make her sick, we’re very relieved to say the duck was successfully retrieved in one piece (and yes… cleaned thoroughly afterwards for the photo opportunity 😂).

Thankfully, this story has a happy ending, but foreign body ingestion can quickly become very serious and may sometimes require emergency surgery if objects can not be brought back up or become stuck.

Safe to say, this little one will be sticking to dog toys from now on 🐶💚

✨ Transformation Tuesday ✨

This week’s pamper sessions came in all shapes and sizes 🐾

We welcomed our biggest grooming client to date - a gorgeous Newfoundland x Poodle who was an absolute gentle giant for the team 💚 And on the other end of the scale, we also celebrated our oldest grooming client ever, who turns an amazing 17 years old today 🥹🎉

Unfortunately our lovely birthday girl wasn’t in the mood for photos after her groom, so we weren’t able to get any transformation pictures this time around — but we still couldn’t let her special day pass without wishing her the happiest of birthdays 🐶✨

From giant fluffballs to golden oldies, we love caring for every pet that comes through our doors ✂️🛁
