💦👃 Snot Easy! 👃💦

Last week, Jane Scott, Lizzy Conway and Valentina Granziera hosted ‘Snot Easy – Practical Tips for Managing Common Nasal Disease’.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us! We had a fantastic turnout, with 29 vets from local practices coming along to learn more about chronic rhinitis, nasal tumours and sinonasal aspergillosis.

We’re already looking forward to our upcoming vet and nurse events in November! 🎉

🎉🐾 CONGRATULATIONS, BOBBY! 🐾🎉

We’re absolutely thrilled to celebrate a huge milestone for this very special boy — Bobby has officially completed his course of chemotherapy! ❤️

Back in April, Bobby was diagnosed with a poorly differentiated soft tissue sarcoma affecting his stifle (knee joint). To prevent the tumour from spreading, Bobby bravely underwent a leg amputation, followed by a course of high-dose Doxorubicin chemotherapy every three weeks to help reduce the risk of distant metastasis.

After five chemotherapy treatments, Bobby has now completed his course, and he’s been absolutely amazing throughout his journey! 🌟

We couldn’t be prouder of this incredible little dog and his strength and resilience. He’s been a real superstar every step of the way, and we’re so happy to be celebrating this wonderful achievement with him. 🐶💙

Well done, Bobby — you’re an absolute champion! Here he is ringing the celebratory bell with his mum🏆🎉

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of two of our fabulous neurologists, Arajeane Aravindan and Bruno Scalia, who recently attended the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN) Symposium in Berlin.🐾

The symposium brought together veterinary neurology specialists from across Europe to share the latest research, knowledge and clinical developments, including fascinating lectures and research into veterinary encephalitis.

We were especially proud to see our very own team present their case study on Fucosidosis, a rare condition which typically affects young dogs causing ataxia (wobbly gait), behaviour changes, and impairment of hearing and vision. Their paper helps contribute valuable knowledge to the wider veterinary community.

At Paragon Veterinary Referrals, our team is passionate not only about providing exceptional care to our patients every day, but also about advancing the field of veterinary medicine through research, collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Meet Bobby 🐾 — a very handsome boy who was referred to us for further investigation and treatment of a recurrent cystic mass affecting his chin and lip.

Bobby was anaesthetised so that both cysts could be carefully removed by marginal excision, followed by reconstructive surgery to help restore the area. The masses were sent for histopathology, with the results confirming them to be apocrine cystadenomas. Whilst these are rare in cats, thankfully they are benign, and complete surgical excision is expected to be curative. 💙

We’re delighted to say that Bobby recovered beautifully and, as you can see, he’s still looking every bit as handsome as ever! 😻 Most importantly, he’s back home enjoying life with his loving family.

We think you’ll agree that this handsome chap is looking pretty pleased with himself! 🥰🐾

🐾 Meet the adorable Winnie Rose! 🌹

Two years ago, Winnie Rose first visited our Neurology Service after developing sudden, involuntary muscle contractions affecting her whole body.

At the time, poor Winnie Rose was withdrawn and unsteady on her feet, with a wide-based stance, a right head tilt and a wobbly gait.

An MRI of her brain revealed lesions in the forebrain and cerebellum, consistent with meningoencephalitis of unknown origin (MUO).

Winnie Rose was hospitalised and received intensive treatment, including fluids, pain relief, anti-seizure medication, steroids and cytarabine, a chemotherapy drug used as part of her treatment to help control the suspected immune-mediated inflammation affecting her central nervous system.

MUO is an immune-mediated inflammatory disease of the central nervous system. It requires long-term treatment to suppress the immune system and help prevent further inflammation.

🌟 Fast forward two years, and Winnie Rose is doing brilliantly! 🌟

She continues to receive cytarabine every 12 weeks alongside her anti-seizure medication, and we couldn’t be happier with how well she is doing.

We’re incredibly proud of Winnie Rose and all she has achieved. The whole team at Paragon always look forward to seeing her when she visits. She certainly brings a lot of joy with her! 🐶🌹

👀 All about eyes👀

Our Ophthalmology Specialist, James Rushton, loves all things eyes — so when he got the opportunity to spend some time with the new graduates at The Pet Vet in Rotherham, he jumped at the chance!

It was fantastic to meet such an enthusiastic group of young vets, all keen to build their confidence and sharpen their approach to ophthalmology cases. 🐶🐱🔍

From tricky eyes to top tips, it was a great session filled with questions, discussion and plenty of enthusiasm for all things ophthalmology!

We’re delighted to welcome Elliott Ward, Amy Sergeant and Suneet Chana to the Paragon Referrals team! 👋

Our interns are an integral part of hospital life, rotating through our different disciplines and gaining valuable experience across a wide range of cases. They also play an important role in supporting our teams with out-of-hours care for our patients. 🐾

💙 Meet Elliott

Elliott joins us as part of our New Graduate Programme, having already spent 12 months working in primary care at Calder Vets. He has a particular passion for Cardiology and is excited to develop his skills while working alongside our talented team of cardiologists.

Outside of work, Elliott enjoys reading and spending time socialising with friends and family. 📚

🩺 Meet Amy

Amy began her veterinary career at PDSA, where she gained experience treating a wide variety of cases. She has a real interest in Medicine and is looking forward to learning from and working alongside our medicine team.

Away from the hospital, Amy loves baking — so naturally, we’re very much looking forward to sampling some of her sweet creations! 🧁

🦎 Meet Suneet

Suneet brings four years of primary care experience, including working with exotic species and in a busy out-of-hours hospital. Originally from Kenya, Suneet has a particular passion for wildlife and exotic species, as well as a keen interest in surgery.
She is looking forward to gaining experience alongside our orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery teams.

Outside of work, Suneet enjoys digital art, wildlife photography and is also a keen swimmer. 📸🏊‍♀️

We’re incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated and enthusiastic team of interns who contribute so much to our hospital and help us provide the best possible care for our patients. ❤️
