Licensed by Wakefield Council under 'The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities involving animals) Regulations 2018', LN/00000920 Wakefield Riding for the Disabled Association (Wakefield RDA) is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Charity that provides horse riding for people with disabilities to improve their general health and well-being. We also provide training and qualifications in horse ca

Just a few pictures from the last couple of days. Participant Charlotte loves her horsecare sessions when she spends time pampering Bill.
New volunteer Freyja started her training today under the watchful eye of volunteer Coach Dawn and volunteer Activity Leader Louise.
Later as the weather was so nice Cody was able ride out on our Therapy ride on Bill. He had a great time.
Well done everyone.

It’s been half term for our school groups this week so our ponies have had a little more free time to relax.
And of course they’ve made the most of it.

We also had time to run a fun contest to find the best pony moustache. It was judged by Centre Manager Carol, who awarded it to Ellie!
No one else came close! 🥸😂

Hot weather alert!

We would politely like to remind all our volunteers, participants and their supporters about our dress code for hot weather volunteering, riding and horse care.

We require that everyone has their shoulders covered - so no vest tops.
We also require tummies to be covered so no cropped tops. There are lots of biting flies around at this time of year so the more covered up the better.

Long trousers must be worn when riding. By all means arrive in shorts but pop a pair of long trousers on before riding. A nip from the stirrup leathers is very unpleasant!

Please wear close toed sturdy shoes as horses have very big feet! So no sandals.

Finally the sun is very strong at this time of year and we will probably be riding outdoors so we recommend participants wear sun protection.

Thank you for your cooperation.

We are extremely grateful to the WMDC Community Grants Team for funding 2 vital projects from the Neighbourhood Improvement Fund.

We have recently purchased branded workwear with one of the grants for our coaches, activity leaders and lead volunteers . The workwear project helps participants, families and visitors quickly identify the RDA team across our busy shared site. This strengthens safeguarding, confidence and our professional identity both on site and at community events.

The second grant has funded Emergency First Aid at Work + Equestrian First Aid refresher training for our Coaches and Activity Leaders. This is key for us to continue to deliver safe RDA sessions and community events.

Thank you again Wakefield Council for your support!

Yesterday Cody had to rescue our dressage letter animals who were lost in the arena. He had to match the cards to the animals and help them find their way home. Well done Cody!
