We haven't posted for a while, due to a few reason, one being that we are in the middle of changing our area coverage.

Wakefield K9, is moving out of the Wakefield area, towards the south. This unfortunately means we will no longer be covering the Wakefield area.

Our existing clients can rest assured we will continue to deliver our services to them, but we will no longer be onboarding new clients for the Wakefield, Outwood, Leeds and West Yorkshire.

We will continue however, providing tips and tricks and info on our page, though this will be less frequent than previously.

Its a busy period for Wakefield K9, and can't wait to continue providing the outstanding support and training as expected from us.

Another development that is ongoing at presents is plans to expand our services, by providing online support, training, courses and more. Though the details on this are still been ironed out and planned.

We hope you are all having a wonderful time with your pooches and looking forward to the improved weather as we quickly settle into Spring. πŸ•β€πŸ¦ΊπŸΆπŸ˜€

March Dog Care Advice:
Keep your pup visible during those lovely evening walks with a reflective vest or collar. It's not just about style; it's about safety! The days may be getting longer, but visibility is key as the sun sets.

And don't forget, with spring in the air, it's the perfect time for outdoor play. Grab a frisbee, head to the park, and enjoy the blooming beauty around you. Exercise and play are not just fun; they're vital for your dog's physical and mental health.

Let's make this March memorable and safe for our canine companions. Happy spring adventures! 🌸🐾

Tip of the Week: Start in a distraction-free environment and gradually increase the level of distraction as your dog improves. Always reward them with their favorite treat or toy when they come back to you. Consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement are key!

🐾 A Day of Discovery with Fynn - Embracing Learning and Debunking Myths 🐾

Today's session with Fynn, our enthusiastic Rottweiler puppy, was all about mastering new skills and addressing common misconceptions in dog training. 🌟

We focused on impulse control, desensitisation, and ensuring Fynn responds positively to visitors. Our approach? Patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. Fynn's progress in managing his excitement and following commands without immediate rewards was impressive! His journey is a testament to the power of modern, science-based training methods.

Additionally, we tackled the topic of dominance in dogs. The takeaway? Dominance is often misunderstood and not a one-size-fits-all behaviour. Its a complex topic, and often misused - to say dogs are dominant is incorrect. Like us, dogs' interactions are complex and influenced by their environment and upbringing.

Let's continue to learn and grow with our dogs, embracing evidence-based practices over myths. Fynn's journey is just beginning, and we're here for every step. πŸ•πŸ’–

πŸΎπŸ” Mental Stimulation in Action with Elisa! πŸ”πŸΎ

Just shared a video of our very own Elisa, mastering a search and find exercise! πŸŽ₯✨ This isn't just a fun game; it's a crucial part of keeping our furry friends mentally stimulated.

Why is mental stimulation so important, you ask? For dogs of all breeds and sizes, engaging the mind is just as vital as physical exercise. It helps to:

Reduce boredom and destructive behaviours
Increase problem-solving skills
Strengthen the bond between you and your pet
Keep their minds sharp and focused
Mental exercises like search and find tap into a dog's natural instincts to hunt and forage, providing a satisfying and rewarding challenge. Watching Elisa navigate her way through this task is not only adorable but a perfect reminder of how intelligent and capable our canine companions truly are.

Let's commit to keeping our pets' minds active and engaged. Try setting up a little search and find game for your dog and watch them light up with excitement and purpose. It's moments like these that truly enrich our lives together. πŸ•πŸ’‘β€οΈ

πŸŒ¦οΈβ˜€οΈ Wakefield K9 February Weather Tip! β˜€οΈπŸŒ¦οΈ

Good morning, Wakefield! As we navigate through the unpredictable weather of February, here's a timely tip for all our dog parents out there:

🐾 Paw Protection is Key 🐾

February's chilly mornings and potential for frost can be tough on your furry friend's paws. Before heading out for your morning walk, consider applying a layer of pet-safe balm to your dog's paw pads. This not only helps in preventing dryness and cracking but also provides a protective barrier against salt and grit from the roads.

And remember, after each walk, gently wipe your dog's paws to remove any debris or harmful substances they might have stepped on. Keeping your dog comfortable and safe is our top priority, no matter the weather!

Let's make this February a fantastic month for our pets, filled with safe and enjoyable walks, regardless of the chilly weather. Stay warm and take care, everyone! πŸ§£πŸ•πŸ’–

πŸ•πŸ’‘ Did You Know? πŸ’‘πŸ•

Today's fun fact is sure to wag some tails! Did you know that dogs have about 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses, compared to a mere 6 million in humans? This incredible sense allows them to pick up scents we can't even begin to detect!

This super sniffing power plays a crucial role in how dogs perceive the world around them. From navigating to understanding their environment, their sense of smell is their superpower. 🌟

So next time you see your furry friend pausing to sniff around during your walk, just remember, they're reading the world's most intricate story written in scents!

Let's appreciate our canine companions for the incredible beings they are, bringing so much joy and wonder into our lives. 🐾❀️
