šØ IMPORTANT CUSTOMER NEWS ā PLEASE READ šØ
Morning All,
I wanted to address something that came to our attention yesterday regarding Stobarts Raw Food, particularly for customers whose dogs have food allergies or intolerances.
Following a conversation with Stobarts, we have discovered that chicken bone and offal are now being used in some of their raw food mixes.
This means that certain products we previously understood to be single-protein are no longer necessarily single-protein products.
For example, a product labelled Beef Complete may also contain chicken bone and offal, despite customers understandably believing they are purchasing a beef-based product.
I cannot begin to express how disappointed I am by this discovery.
Like many of you, we were under the impression that these products contained only the protein stated, as had previously been the case.
As someone who has a dog with multiple food allergies myself, this is particularly upsetting. I have unknowingly fed my own dog ingredients she should not have been having, and I know many of our customers may now find themselves in the same position.
What makes this even more disappointing is that we have recommended these products to customers specifically looking for single-protein diets, based on the information we believed to be correct.
First and foremost, I want to sincerely apologise to anyone who has purchased these products from us believing they were single-protein.
At Luna & Bear, we take enormous pride in the advice we give and the trust our customers place in us. We would never knowingly recommend a product that wasnāt suitable for your dogās dietary requirements.
PLEASE DONāT PANIC ā AN IMPORTANT REASSURANCE!!
This does NOT mean there is anything wrong with Stobarts Raw Food.
For dogs without allergies or intolerances to the ingredients concerned, there is no reason to change their diet simply because of this information.
We feed Stobarts to our own dogs, and they have absolutely thrived on it!
Please donāt feel guilty, worried or think youāre doing anything wrong by feeding Stobarts. That is absolutely not the message Iām trying to convey.
Our concern is specifically for dogs with allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements where knowing the exact protein sources is essential.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR OUR CUSTOMERS?
1. Chicken-Free Boxes
Unfortunately, we will no longer be able to offer our chicken-free boxes using products whose ingredients we cannot confidently verify.
We simply cannot guarantee that these boxes would be genuinely chicken-free, and the last thing we would ever want is for a customer to unknowingly feed their dog something they are allergic to.
Your dogsā health and wellbeing will always come before making a sale.
2. New Single-Protein Products
Stobarts informed us yesterday that they will be introducing Pure Beef and Pure Lamb, which they have advised will be single-protein products.
We will share further information about these once the ingredients and availability have been confirmed.
3. Will We Continue to Stock Stobarts?
Yes, absolutely.
Stobarts remains an affordable, budget-friendly raw feeding option, and we know many dogs do extremely well on it.
However, moving forward, we will make sure customers are aware that certain mixes may contain additional animal proteins, so they can make fully informed decisions about what is suitable for their dogs.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
As soon as this information came to my attention yesterday, I contacted Stobarts directly to seek clarification.
We have been advised that Stobarts will be communicating their next steps to us and other stockists on Monday.
We will also be requesting written confirmation from Stobarts regarding several important points:
* Exactly which products are affected and which mixes contain chicken bone, offal or any other animal proteins not previously disclosed to us.
* When these recipe changes were introduced, so we can better understand which stock and previous purchases may have been affected.
* Whether the product packaging, ingredient lists and declarations have been updated to accurately reflect the ingredients now being used.
* Confirmation of the full ingredients in their existing and upcoming products, particularly those advertised or described as single-protein.
We believe this information is essential, not only for us as a retailer but, more importantly, for customers who rely on accurate ingredient information to manage their dogsā dietary needs.
Until we receive clear confirmation, we will not be making any guarantees that the affected mixes are suitable for dogs requiring a chicken-free or strictly single-protein diet.
As soon as we receive further information, we will share any relevant updates with you.
I want to be completely transparent about something else, too.
One of the most disappointing aspects of this situation is that we were not made aware of these ingredient changes before they happened.
Had we been informed, we could have made different purchasing decisions, updated our advice and, most importantly, ensured customers with dogs requiring specific diets were given accurate information from the outset.
As a small business, we work incredibly hard to build relationships with our customers based on honesty, knowledge and trust.
When we recommend a product, we do so in good faith, relying on the information provided to us by the manufacturer.
Finding out that information is no longer accurate is incredibly frustrating, particularly when it has the potential to affect dogs with allergies.
FINALLY, A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM ME
I know how stressful and difficult managing a dogās food allergies can be. I live with those challenges myself, so I completely understand why this information matters so much.
I would much rather have an open and honest conversation with our customers, even when itās uncomfortable, than allow anyone to continue purchasing something under the wrong impression.
If your dog has a chicken allergy or requires a strictly single-protein diet, please do not assume the existing Stobarts mixes are suitable until their full ingredients have been confirmed.
Once again, I am genuinely sorry to anyone this may have affected.
Please know that your trust means everything to us, and we will always do our very best to put your dogsā wellbeing first.
Thank you for your understanding, your continued support and for trusting us to be part of your dogsā feeding journeys.
