🌽 A-maize-ing Surgery: The Great Corn Cob Caper 🌽

Last night a five-month-old puppy came in with a vomiting, sore tummy. He had already brought up half a corn cob at home, which was a pretty big clue that something was amiss. 🌽

Our brilliant new graduate Vet Willow examined Henry and thought she could feel something suspicious. She called in vet Jo for a second opinion, and she agreed.

Henry was admitted for diagnostics, with Willow leading the way and Jo & Ian helping out.

On ultrasound, Willow spotted something irregular in the small intestine, and off to theatre we went. 🏥

The culprit? The other half of the cob, hiding in the small intestine and refusing to leave. We husked it out, and Henry is now cob-free. 🌽

Corn: 0 puppy 1, Vets : a-maize-ing.

The team stayed late into the evening, and a huge thank you goes to head nurse Becky💚, who stayed overnight to look after the little one as they recovered. Total legend😘

On a serious note, corn cobs are a classic cause of blockages in dogs. If your dog has swallowed one, or is vomiting, off their food or has a tender tummy, please call us straight away.😀

Celebrating 6 years of Becky!!

Today 6 years ago, we hired our first maggot 🐛 ( employee ) Becky.

To be honest I’m not sure how we managed the first 4 months without her. Becky has put her heart and soul into Wave and we honestly couldn’t have done it without her.

She started as head nurse of 1 and now is in head nurse of 6, that’s means she demands a nurse a year to keep her happy 😂

Thank you Becky for taking a massive leap of faith by joining us on the crazy Wave Journey, we can’t wait for the next 60 years together, may it be full of laughter, fun and a pint or 2 of c***r 😂😂😂

👶 💖Pink or Blue🩵 👶

Today we bid a temporary farewell to Vet Charlotte.

She has been busy growing her 3rd baby and as from tomorrow she will be on the final baking.

As a practice we have a little sweepstake going to predict the day, weight and flavour of baby.

Feel free to add in the comments boy or girl and we will update you all in a few weeks.

Good luck Charvey! We are sure you will be back very soon even if it is to just escape the Rugrats for a cuppa ☕️

🐾 GRACE’S SAVING GRACE 🐾

You all loved hearing about “Rocky’s Road”, so we wanted to share more stories of pets being ! 💙💚

Meet Grace, the graceful Bearded Collie who came to us struggling to p*e. She was otherwise bright and well, but something clearly wasn’t right.

Her symptoms could have been caused by a simple bladder infection, but this case required a bit of detective work — and that’s what we do best! 🔎🐶

Our team carried out a comprehensive investigation, including urine analysis, blood tests, ultrasound and X-rays.

Our investigations revealed the culprit hiding in Grace’s bladder…
🪨 One. Very. Large. Bladder Stone 🪨

Measuring around 5cm across, this was no ordinary stone. Grace had basically been carrying around a small garden ornament — and understandably, it was causing her quite a bit of trouble! 😳

Our veterinary team moved quickly. Under anaesthesia, the stone was carefully removed from her bladder and sent for laboratory analysis, alongside urine samples for culture.

The laboratory results helped our team tailor Grace’s ongoing treatment and dietary management to significantly reduce the chances of her manufacturing any more unwanted ornaments — helping to keep

Grace happy and healthy for the long term.
Grace also had a bacterial infection associated with her urinary problem, and the culture results allowed us to select the most appropriate antibiotic to treat it.

❤️ Now, Grace is doing brilliantly. She’s urinating normally and is much more comfortable.

At her latest check, she was bright and well, her surgical site had healed beautifully, her urine looked good — and most importantly, her final urine culture showed no bacterial growth. 🎉

Grace’s story is another great example of how our approach at Wave Vets can make a difference.

🐾 Rocky’s Road 🐾

We want to tell you the incredible story of Rocky, the bravest Greyhound around!
Rocky is 36kg of Greyhound, and approximately 97% legs. 😂

🐕 Rocky came to us in November last year with a sore front leg. Luckily for Rocky, we didn’t stop at treating the obvious problem. Following a thorough physical examination by, Harrison, we discovered a grapefruit-sized abdominal mass!

🔎 We investigated thoroughly with bloods, X-rays, ultrasound and ultrasound-guided sampling. The scans revealed a large mass arising from Rocky’s left kidney.

🧪 Samples were sent to our external laboratory for analysis by a team of specialist pathologists. The results helped us build a clearer picture of what was going on and, importantly, plan the next steps for Rocky.

🧪The mass was highly suspicious for a renal cell carcinoma — a serious cancer originating from the kidney.

Thanks to Harrison’s thorough examination and the investigations that followed, we were able to identify the problem and move quickly towards definitive treatment.

🏥 Once we had enough information, Rocky underwent complex surgery to remove his entire left kidney, including the mass, performed by our very own team of super-vets, Harrison and Ian.

This type of procedure would normally require referral to a specialist centre, but thanks to our expert team, Rocky was able to receive this advanced surgical care right here at our Wadebridge clinic.

The surgery went smoothly, and Rocky had a comfortable recovery with lots of support from our incredible team of veterinary nurses. ❤️
🔬 The kidney was then sent for histopathology, which confirmed a renal cell carcinoma.

Since then, Rocky has decided that having one kidney is apparently plenty. 😎

This September, Rocky returned for further blood analysis and diagnostic imaging to check for any evidence of recurrence — and we were thrilled to find no evidence that the cancer has returned. 🎉

Renal cell carcinoma can carry a guarded prognosis, with reported survival times varying between cases. Rocky is now well beyond the six-month period discussed in the veterinary literature, which is fantastic news for this very special Greyhound.

From a sore leg to an unexpected kidney tumour, Rocky certainly kept us on our toes! But by looking beyond the obvious, carrying out thorough investigations, using advanced imaging and sampling, and providing complex surgery and careful aftercare, Wave Vets were able to get to the bottom of a much bigger problem.

Wave Vets may be a small practice, but Rocky’s story shows just how mighty our team can be! 💪🐾

Good boy, Rocky. One kidney down, absolutely no reduction in Greyhound attitude. ❤️🐕💨

Introducing Willow our new vet!

She joins our vet team of Charley’s angels 😇 (it’s a girl only day today)

Willow is a brand new fresh out the box fully qualified veterinary surgeon👩‍⚕️ and we are super pleased she has joined the team.

She has been here for 2 weeks and already treated many of our wavers🐶 🐱 so some of you will have already met her and for those of you that haven’t yet I’m sure you will soon, even if it is just to say hi and have a gravy bone or 2

✂️ A sad day here at Wave Vets, ✂️

Today we said a tearful goodbye to our beloved fur clippers. They served us faithfully, trimmed countless coats, and quite frankly, deserved a better retirement than being ceremoniously binned. 🥲

BUT… every ending has a silver lining! ✨

🎉 WE HAVE NEW CLIPPERS! 🎉

Faster. Fresher. Sharper. And most importantly… they actually work. 😂

So please join us in mourning the white clippers while celebrating the arrival of our new shiny purple grooming gadget.

Here’s to many more fabulous trims, fewer tantrums, and absolutely no more “hang on, why has it stopped again?” moments. 😂🐶🐱

We would like start the week with an apology to the dogs of Wadebridge.
We are very sorry but we have your dog walker Esther! 🐕 🚶‍♀️

But don’t worry you can still get your Esther cuddles by coming into us instead! 🤣

Esther has joined Rachel and Charlotte on the front desk so there will always be someone there for cuddles and gravy bones!

Esther has been walking the Wadebridge doggies for the last 3 years and you have probably seen her out and about also having previously been a veterinary nurse for 10+years she is a great addition to our team Wave.
