May is Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month. A time to celebrate the vital role veterinary nurses play across our profession.
I had every intention of filling this month with polished posts highlighting the scope of veterinary nurses in wound care… but this year something clicked.
Sometimes the greatest demonstration of what veterinary nurses are capable of isn’t found in curated content, it’s found in the work happening quietly behind the scenes.
Over the last year I’ve been immersed in projects that truly reflect the breadth, adaptability and impact of veterinary nursing.
In 2025 alone, I taught around 500 vets and nurses to feel more confident in wound management and in the first 3 months of 2026 that number has already exceeded 200!
Behind the scenes I’ve been:
💜 Collaborating with trusted partners on wound care product ranges to improve accessibility and education for veterinary teams
💜 Continuously redesigning wound care resources to make them more practical, relevant and effective
💜 Updating educational content to ensure it remains evidence-based and current
💜 Creating lectures and speaking at events, with many more still to come this year
💜 Filming educational content in a film studio (equally terrifying and exciting)
💜 Researching wound care more deeply for a project I cannot wait to share soon!
All while locuming where I can, studying for a postgraduate certificate, raising a family and single-handedly running a business.
Veterinary nurses are not “just support staff.” We are educators, advocates, clinicians, innovators, leaders and problem-solvers.
I’m incredibly proud to be part of a profession that continues to evolve, and I’m more excited than ever about the future of veterinary nursing… particularly the potential to further expand our roles with legislation that is truly fit for purpose.
To every veterinary nurse quietly making an impact behind the scenes: your work matters, your skills matter, and this profession would not function without you. 💜
