The Exotic Animal Vets

07/10/2026

Craig, our Head Nurse, is lecturing at this week’s BVNA Congress.

We're excited to be at BVNA (The British Veterinary Nursing Association) Congress from 9-11 October!

Visit us at Stand B1 to speak with our expert team about all the latest innovations, including a live demo of our Selective Feeding Guide app. See how it supports body condition assessment, portion calculation and feeding plans, and don't forget to pick up a free goodie bag 🛍️

If you're attending on Sunday 11th, don't miss The Exotic Animal Vets Craig Tessyman's talk on "Nutrition of Rabbits & Guinea Pigs: From Advice to Practical Assessment" at 10-11 am in Ironbridge 3. All attendees receive a limited-edition Selective Storage Tin at the talk 🐰🌿🧑‍🏫

Are you coming to the show? We'd love to see you there! 🐰🐹

We’re really pleased to have been nominated for PetPlan Practice of the Year 2026.

Many of the team have also been nominated for their roles and service.

We’re very grateful to all those who took the time to make the nominations.

We’ve had a small Horsefield’s tortoise brought to us that was found in the Patterdale Avenue area.

If you think it might be yours please contact us (0161 296 8092) - some form of ownership evidence please.

Just to let anyone who’s coming to the practice this week know, there are roadworks immediately outside.

They don’t seem to be causing significant problems yet, but there has been a promise of 4 way traffic lights!

Maybe with allowing an extra 10 minutes just in case.

Today is International Rabbit Day!

A big ‘Hi’ to all our amazing rabbit patients and their owners.

Please feel free to post pictures of your rabbits and their names in the comments.

EDIT - should be able to post pictures now.

We’ve had another two students the last couple of weeks, but unfortunately only managed to catch one on camera!

Lucy is just starting 4th year at Harper Keele, one of the UK’s newer vet schools. She’s not sure what she’s going to do when she qualifies as she’s really enjoyed all the different types of practice she’s been to.

Her favourite animal is a Honey Badger, although I’m not sure I’d like to handle one!

This is Erys, who we think is amazingly cute.
She’s a 5 year old ferret who came in to have some x-rays taken.
Erys means chaos, but she was very well behaved, and loved having some cuddles.

For the last two weeks we have had students Millie and Robyn in the practice.

Both are going into Final Year at Liverpool Vet School, so will be qualified vets this time next year.

Millie’s favourite animal are sharks, whereas Robyn prefers Sugar Gliders!

Here are this week’s students.

Aaron is going into his final year at Liverpool Vet School. This is his second time seeing practice with us, and is coming back for his elective project in May. His favourite animal is the Elf Owl, and he hopes to be an avian surgeon.

Molly is also at Liverpool and going into fourth year. She doesn’t have a specific career objective at the moment, but will hopefully start off in mixed practice (an excellent place to start). But she will know quite a lot more about rabbits and exotics!

Something didn’t go quite right with the last post, so am trying again as I’m sure many of our clients would love to nominate staff members, or the whole practice, for the PetPlan Awards 2026.

You don’t have to be a PetPlan client!
