The last three weeks we have had Lucy and Jen here as vet students.

They are both at the end of their time at Liverpool University, have passed everything they need to pass, and will officially become vets on the 16 June.

Both of them have ‘seen practice’ with us before, and were the first and second students in the practice when we opened in April last year.

We take the development of the next generation of vets as a key responsibility, and have had around 50 students in our first year, some more than once.

This week we’ve seen Goose, who obviously isn’t a goose! He (although its s*x has not yet been confirmed) is an Amazon parrot.

His owners were keen to get him microchipped, baseline bloods and a DNA test to confirm s*x.

Goose is a beautiful bird, and very easy to handle. A credit to themselves and the owners.

Apparently the road outside the practice is going to be closed for the next four days. This is just to the South of us, so should have no impact on anyone coming from the M60 and heading to Eden Square.

However our local councillor has not been able to find out any information from Trafford Highways about what is planned. So may be a good idea to leave a little extra time to get here.

More worrying is they are planning to block the road North of the practice next week, which will affect anyone coming from the M60. We will post more information/guidance when we know more.

If you are running late we do appreciate a call (0161 296 8092).

For some reason pictures of animals always get far fewer views than those of people!

Molly has had a very successful week in China providing surgical and medical training to vets from all over Asia on a course organised by CSAVS (China Small Animal Veterinary Society).

She’s also been signing copies of her Textbook of Rabbit Medicine for them, which has been translated into Chinese.

Molly is now on her way home, and back to a full week at work.

Am not sure if the second photograph doesn’t look like a late entry into the Eurovision Song Contest!

Craig and I are very proud to be included in the incredible line-up for this years Just Exotics Virtual Conference!

This time we get to celebrate our amazing guinea pig patients- not ‘just small rabbits’ but a species with specific needs that deserves species specific care.

Looking forward to this 🙂

Some of you may remember the young cockerel that was found in Stretford. As no one claimed him, we suspect he was abandoned, probably for being male.

Well the guys at Riverside College gave him a home, and have called him David. He now lives with a hen called Victoria.

Doesn’t he look magnificent? What a change in just a couple of months or so.

We’ve not had students for a couple of weeks, but this week we have Charlie.

She has just started her final year at Bristol Vet School, and has finished all her written exams. But does have a lot of practical exams over the next year.

Her favourite animals are orcas and lions (we’ve seen neither, so far, in the practice).

Charlie is hoping for a career in exotic veterinary medicine.

Molly is off to China to teach Chinese vets about rabbits next week- but we are thrilled to announce that Athin who many of you will remember from St Helens will be covering for her.

Athin has spent the past four years at the University of Edinburgh undertaking a residency in exotic pets. He is a very experienced vet and we can’t wait to work with him again!
