👀 You don't often get this on your doorstep...
One of the lovely things about having The Shire Veterinary Services as our veterinary Friends of Tails in the Trees is being able to share things like this with you.
On Saturday 31st October, The Shire Veterinary Services in Ulceby are hosting a British Vetinerary Association (BVA) Eye Testing clinic, with a visiting certified veterinary ophthalmologist.
And this is actually quite a big deal to have available locally.
The BVA Eye Scheme is a national canine health screening scheme which uses specialist veterinary ophthalmologists to examine dogs for inherited and other eye conditions. It's particularly important for anyone considering breeding from their dog, as the results can help people make informed breeding decisions.
If my research is correct, according to the BVA there are currently only 42 BVA eye panellists across the UK and Ireland, which means people can sometimes have quite a journey to access this type of specialist testing.
So having a visiting BVA ophthalmologist right here in Ulceby is a brilliant opportunity for dog owners in our area.
And something I didn't realise until I looked into it — the scheme isn't just for pedigree or Kennel Club registered dogs. It's open to all dogs, including crossbreeds.

We're very lucky to have Mihai and Cristina and The Shire team so close to us — and even luckier when they're bringing specialist services like this into our little corner of North Lincolnshire. ❤️
If you know somebody who breeds, shows or works their dogs, please tag them or send this their way — they may be very glad you did.
