the last few weeks have been an emotional whirlwind with our greta, we've never been so exhausted and emotionally drained but we have finally turned a corner and are feeling so much happier 🌟
four weeks ago we found two lumps on gretas neck, we tried anti biotics at the same time as a fine needle aspiration, and then it was decided to do a full biopsy and remove a large skin tag from her muzzle.
greta initially coped well with the surgery and general anesthetic, but suddenly she had intense swelling on her face, a serious infection and her incisions started opening, so she was put on strong antibiotics amongst other medication. we then had an incident in the middle of the night where she tore the few remaining stitches from her muzzle incision, causing alot of blood to come pouring out of her mouth - if you dont know, dogs mouths bleed like crazy 🫣
the biopsy results came back and the skin tag on her face was cancerous and it had started spreading into her lymph nodes, however it should stay contained and we hopefully wont see any detrimental effects to greta from it.
in the meantime, she has also been diagnosed with lumbosacral disease, a very common degenerative condition in german shepherds, which is progressive but with her pain relief, medication, physio, supplements, red light therapy etc (the list goes on!), we will continue to look after her as best we can
despite all of this, greta has remained her usual calm, gentle and sassy self and has coped with everything so unbelievably well 🥹 she is such a good girl!
adopting and looking after a senior dog isnt easy, especially one quite as big as our girl, but she is still the best decision we ever made and we will continue to cherish and spoil her for as long as possible 🩷
