If you could ask your dog just one question and get a real answer, what would you ask? 🐶

🐾 Why do you bark at the postman every single day?

🐾 What exactly did you roll in, and why did it smell like that?

🐾 Do you actually like your Christmas jumper, or are you just being polite?

🐾 Where does the other sock go?

5 signs your dog is mirroring your energy

1. They're more reactive on days you're stressed or rushed.

2. They pull harder when you're running late.

3. They settle faster when you sit down and breathe.

4. Their recall is great with one person and patchy with another.

5. They "never do this at home", where you feel relaxed.

Training teaches your dog what to do. Animal communication helps you understand how they're feeling about it, and what they're picking up from you. Together, they help you work as a team.

If you're seeing these patterns and want to understand what's really going on, an animal communication reading can help. We can explore how your dog feels on walks, what they notice in you, and what would help them feel more settled. It works alongside your training.

When your dog is in hospital, the hardest part is that you can't explain to them what's happening.

When Stan, Clare's much-loved two-year-old Cocker, was rushed in for major surgery, I reached out to help. I connected with Stan to let him know where he was, that he'd had an operation, and that the vets and nurses were there to look after him. Stan had a message too: he wanted to come home. So I gently let him know he needed to eat first.

Later that day, the hospital called. Stan had eaten; he was doing well ("too well"!), and he could come home early. He'd also settled, trusting the staff and even accepting cuddles from them.

Full credit goes to Stan's wonderful vets and nurses for his care. What animal communication gave was peace of mind for Stan and for his family at a really frightening time.

Thank you, Clare, for sharing your story. Welcome home, Stan!

If your animal is going through a vet stay, a move, or a big change, I can help you understand what's happening and how they're feeling. Book your free consultation: https://edsdogtraining.co.uk/animal-communication-reading/

You DON’T have to speak to your dog like a drill sergeant to get them to listen!

If you find yourself saying:

“COME!”

“COME HERE!”

“I SAID COME!”

…louder and louder because your dog isn’t responding, try this instead. 🙂

🟠 Say the command ONCE.
If you want your dog to come, say “come” once. Repeating it teaches them that the first few times don’t really matter.

🟠 Make it easy for them to succeed.
Don’t practise “come” for the first time when your dog is distractimed! Start somewhere quiet, where you can actually get a response.

🟠 Reward the behaviour you want.
When your dog does what you have asked, make it worth their while. Food, praise, a toy, access to something they enjoy whatever is your dogs biggest driver.

🟠 Get their attention before giving the command.
If your dog is sniffing, playing or distracted, shouting a command over the top of them isn't going to work. Get their attention first, then ask.

🟠 Don’t keep giving a command they can’t do.
If your dog ignores “stay” after three seconds, don’t keep repeating “STAY! STAY! STAY!” Make it easier, reward the few seconds they can manage, and build from there.

Remember: ignoring you isn’t always disobedience.
🟠 Sometimes they genuinely don’t understand. 🟠 Sometimes the environment is too distracting.
🟠 Sometimes the reward isn't worth what you're asking them to give up.

The goal isn't to have a dog that listens because you're louder.

The goal is to have a dog that understands what you're asking, knows what earns them a reward, and chooses to work with you. 😀🐾

Try this:

Pick ONE command your dog struggles with. Say it once, make the situation easier, and reward the response you want.

You might be surprised how much better your dog listens when we stop shouting and start teaching. 😃

When I tell people I’m a Certified Animal Communicator, it’s met with either complete confusion or a barrage of questions!

Questions range from:

‘Are the animals you talk to dead or alive?’

‘Do the animals physically speak to you?’

‘How is this even possible? They don’t speak English?’

To name just a few! I understand this; I felt the same at first!

Animal communication is something I feel very blessed to be able to do. I’m able to connect with all and any of your animals and pets, both on this earth plane and with those who have already passed over. I communicate telepathically through the power of my subconscious mind and energy.

By doing this remotely, I’m able to ask your animal any questions you may have unanswered regarding anything to do with their past, their now, their feelings, their fears and even their guidance for you, their owner.

I can also relay messages to them from you. Things you have been wanting them to know, or maybe to let them know what is happening to support them through difficult times in your life, and theirs. Everything from health issues to changes in the human/animal pack in your home, and people arriving and leaving to help lessen anxiety.

This is brilliant as a stand-alone communication tool, and it can also use it in dog behavioural training!

I can learn about past trauma or fear-based experiences your animals have been through, which can help you understand their behaviour when trying to reshape undesirable behaviours and bring harmony to your home.

Having the opportunity to speak to an animal that has passed can bring great peace to people. Knowing that their animal is free from pain and is happy can usually help make the grieving process a little bit easier, especially for owners who were not present at their passing, or had to make difficult decisions around the end of life.

My biggest privilege as an Animal Communicator is being able to accompany animals over the rainbow bridge. One of the biggest fears of an animal owner is that their animal will be scared when it's time to cross over. Using my ability to communicate with animals, I can explain what is happening, share any last messages their owner has for them, and reassure them there is no need to worry.

Communication with animals is done telepathically through using energy, so I am able to do this both in person and through using a photograph of your animal. As long as both eyes are fully visible and I know their name, this is all I need. This enables me to communicate with your animal wherever they are in this world, or beyond.

What would you like to ask or say to an animal you hold dear to your heart? Book an animal communication session; you’ll be fascinated by the level of accuracy, detail and difference this can make to your life.

🐾 Sometimes your training journey goes backwards… and that’s OK.

You’ve done the work.
You’ve built your dog’s confidence.
Things have been going really well…

Then another dog gets too close, another owner makes a poor decision, and suddenly your dog is struggling again. 😩

And the frustrating bit?

It wasn’t even your fault.

But one bad experience doesn’t undo all the hard work you’ve put in.

Sometimes you just have to put the journey in reverse for a little while.

Go back to what your dog finds easier.
🟠Give them more space.
🟠Slow things down.
🟠Build that confidence back up.

You’re not starting again.

You’re just taking the slower road back to where you were. 😊

And sometimes, that’s exactly what your dog needs.

Has something completely out of your control ever knocked your dog back a few steps?

Hello! I'm Emma-Dawn Joy, and if you've ever wondered what your dog is thinking, you're in the right place.

I'm a certified animal communicator, dog behaviourist, and positive reinforcement trainer. My wife and I share our home with three dogs of our own, The Joy Dogs, and over the years I've lived with dogs of every shape, size and challenging behaviour.

Through animal communication, I connect with your dog to understand what they're feeling, what's worrying them and what they need from you. Then I use those insights to shape their training, so we work with your dog's feelings instead of against them. Most "problem" behaviour is really a feeling that hasn't been heard yet. Once you understand the why, the training finally sticks.

I work in person across the East Riding of Yorkshire and online wherever you are, and I also offer animal Reiki to help anxious animals relax. Book your free consultation through the link in bio, and let's start that conversation.

The first 8–16 weeks shape your puppy's whole future 🐶📚

Most people think puppy training starts with "sit" and "stay", but the real foundation is laid much earlier, in a short window most owners don't even realise is happening.

Between roughly 8 and 16 weeks old, puppies are forming their entire view of the world, deciding what's safe, what's scary, what's normal, and what's worth reacting to. Every experience during this stage (good or bad) leaves a lasting impression. It's why calm, positive exposure to new people, sounds, surfaces, and situations now pays off for years to come.

This is also the stage where habits form fastest, for better or worse. Where your puppy learns to go to the toilet, how they respond when you say "no," whether they settle at night or cry for attention, how they feel about being left alone all of it is being shaped right now, whether you're actively "training" or not.

The good news is you don't need to get everything perfect. You just need consistency, patience, and to understand why your puppy is doing what they're doing so you can guide it in the right direction from the start.

If you want a clear, step-by-step way to work through this stage without second-guessing yourself, Speak Perfect Puppy walks you through exactly that: https://edsdogtraining.co.uk/products/speak-perfect-puppy/
