Are your cattle getting everything they need from grass alone this summer? 🌱🐮

Summer grazing is often seen as the cheapest phase of growing cattle, but relying solely on grass can limit performance when aiming to maximise liveweight gain.

Supplementing grazing with 1kg Elitestock Rolls can help:
✔️ Support growth rates
✔️ Improve consistency
✔️ Make better use of available grazing

“Mineral nutrition is another important consideration. Grass may not supply adequate levels of key trace elements such as copper, selenium and zinc, which are essential for growth, health and immunity.”

When it comes to creep feeding, timing matters 🐑📈

As younger animals have an inbuilt growth efficiency, we can feed less for more gain.

For example:
✔️ A young lamb will need around 4kg of feed to gain 1kg weight
✔️ An older lamb, post weaning will need closer to 5kg of feed to gain 1kg weight

That’s why early nutrition can make such a difference to performance and feed efficiency.

Creep feeding can offer many advantages on farm - but first and foremost it must be profitable to do so.

Getting the right system in place can help support efficient growth while making the most of lamb performance during the period they are naturally most efficient.

Could milling your own grain help cut feed costs on your farm? 🌾🚜

For Northamptonshire-based beef and arable farmer Harry Brown, bringing in the Harbro Super Bruiser service to mill home-grown cereals has helped reduce feed costs by up to 50%.

With rising production costs continuing to challenge the industry, making better use of home-grown grain can be a practical way to improve efficiency and take greater control of feed costs.

This year’s RHASS President’s Initiative at the Royal Highland Show is shining a well-deserved spotlight on Aberdeenshire, a region at the heart of Scottish food, farming and rural communities.

As home to our head office and many of our valued customers, Aberdeenshire plays a vital role in producing food, supporting local communities and driving innovation across Scottish agriculture.

Led by RHASS President Pat Machray, this year’s initiative celebrates the people, businesses and communities that make Aberdeenshire such an important part of Scotland’s success story. We’re looking forward to seeing the region showcased in the President’s Marquee and celebrating everything it has to offer.

The initiative is also raising funds for three outstanding organisations RSABI SAYFC Young Farmers and RHASS helping to support the future of Scottish agriculture and rural communities.

If you're heading to the Royal Highland Show, be sure to visit the President’s Marquee and discover more about this remarkable region.
