Sometimes, when you don’t know what to do, try putting yourself in your pet’s paws.

See the world as they see it. Notice what brings them joy, what causes them fear, and whether they are still able to enjoy the things that make life meaningful. Looking through their eyes can often help you find the answer that your heart is struggling to accept.

The hardest truth is that sometimes the right decision for them isn’t the right decision for us. We would choose one more day, one more cuddle, one more walk, every single time. We want them to stay with us forever.

But our pets don’t understand tomorrow—they only know how they feel today. And sometimes, life becomes overwhelming, and they simply can’t carry on.

The greatest gift we can give them is to put their comfort before our heartbreak. To choose peace over pain. To let love be bigger than our desire to hold on.

We want to be able to help families make those impossible decisions with compassion, dignity, and love… because no one should have to say goodbye alone.

✨ We’ve got some exciting news! ✨

Today we’ve launched our brand new Home Farewell Vet website! 🐾💚

It’s been designed to be easy to use and full of helpful information for families when they need us most. Even better, it was created by two talented local lads from Cornwall (who are currently doing A levels 🫣)one is the son of a lady we met years ago when the kids were young .

We’re incredibly proud that this is a truly Cornish collaboration, built by our community, for our community.

If you have a moment, we’d love you to take a look and let us know what you think. Your support means everything to our little Cornish business.

One of the things I often tell families is this: never underestimate how well you know your pet.

As veterinarians, we can examine your pet, run tests, and understand the science behind what may be happening in their body. But we usually see them for a short consultation.

You live with them. You know their routines, habits, expressions, and quirks. You’ve watched them every day for years. You’re often the first to notice the subtle changes—a different look in their eyes, a hesitation on the stairs, a shift in their sleep patterns, or a change in how they greet you at the door.

When a pet becomes unwell, those observations matter enormously.

The best decisions are made when veterinary knowledge and an owner’s understanding of their pet come together. Your insights aren’t “just a feeling”—they’re built on thousands of hours spent loving and knowing your companion.

Never underestimate the value of that. 💜

That moment afterwards- you can feel quite lost- sometimes you know what to do, sometimes you don’t.

Perhaps, if you can, make a plan… go to the sea, be quiet, see friends, go for a walk… everyone needs different things but thinking ahead can help you put one foot in front of the other when you don’t know how to….

Owners offer me a chair and I answer ‘I’m a floor sitter’ as I slow blink 🫣

I know I’m a bit odd

I think I have a heightened sense of smell…
And we don’t smell clinical anymore

And pets even get their noses in our vet bags because they smell of chocolate not surgical spirit…

To be honest, we are all quite relieved

Many of us have ‘the one’,
Or a life changing moment,
or a change a pet created❤️🐾

Who or what was yours?

Maybe they got you through a hard time, became your best friend, or simply made every day better.

We hear beautiful stories so often, it’s such a privilege.

And although we may have to suffer grief, that love lives on within us.

We are privileged to have so much time
To hold space for you

We know every situation is different
Every story is unique

We are here to understand first and foremost

I kept the very first Thank You card I received after graduating, and many since. On the hardest days, your words keep us going.

We’ve now passed 200 reviews, and every single one feels like another Thank You card.

It feels a little strange posting about it… but stranger not to.

These are some of the words that got me quite emotional. Thank you 🙏
