😁 5 signs your horse or donkey may need a dental check

Horses and donkeys can hide dental pain, so regular dental checks matter even when everything seems fine. Prevention is better than cure! Here are five signs your horse or donkey may need a dental check:

🐴 Unexplained weight loss
🌾 Quidding or dropping feed while eating
💩 Long fibres or undigested food in their droppings
❌ Resistance to the bit
🦷 Bad breath or an unpleasant smell from one or both nostrils

We’ve all got them… confessions of an equine owner!

From secret shopping sprees hidden from our other halves to that “surprise” new horse we may have forgotten to mention… as equine owners we are all guilty of something!

🍪 Over cups of tea and a few chocolate biscuits, Beccy, Rach and Molly admitted to a few confessions of their own:

- “I went to the feed shop for one thing and came home with a full car.” 🛒
- “I’ve pretended a new purchase has been in the tack room for ages.” 🫣
- “I call the vet immediately when there’s something wrong with my horse, but ignore my own symptoms for weeks.” 📞
- “I’ve cancelled plans because the weather was perfect for riding.” 🔆
- “I said I’d only be 30 minutes… three hours later, I was still at the yard!” ⌚
- “The doctor didn’t say I couldn’t ride…” (Rach's most heard confession!)👩‍⚕️

🐴 Autumn ACTH Testing 🐴

Autumn is an ideal time to test for PPID (Cushing’s), when the ACTH blood test is most accurate.

Between the 14th of September and the 16th of October, we're offering;

💙 Family Plus clients a FREE lab fee

💙 Clients who are not members of Family Plus will receive 50% off our lab fee.

The lab fee covers sample consumables, processing, courier costs, and interpretation.

Our usual visit and blood-sampling fees along with the relevant blood test fee from Axiom, will still apply.

We're delighted to welcome Charlotte to the Duchy Equine Vets team! 🐴

Charlotte graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2019 and moved to Mid Cornwall shortly afterwards, where she went straight into mixed farm and equine practice.

She enjoys all aspects of equine veterinary work, with interests in lameness and reproduction and believes in the importance of working alongside other professionals to ensure your equines have the best care possible!🐎

When she's not working, Charlotte loves countryside walks with her family, horse riding and heading to the beach for a swim. She's also a huge coffee fan and is always on the lookout for a good coffee spot (let us know if you have any hidden gems!) ☕
