😢 We’re really sorry to share the disappointing news that, after careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the final British Eventing Official, event of the year, West Wilts (3).
The challenging weather conditions have had a significant impact on the ground. With the forecast originally showing around 50mm of rain, we remained hopeful that this would be enough to lay the dust and improve conditions, and we prepared the tracks accordingly. All of the courses were also slit in preparation.
Unfortunately, the forecast has changed significantly and we are now only expecting around 10mm of rain. This simply isn’t enough to improve the ground to the standard we need.
The welfare of the horses and the safety and enjoyment of our riders have to come first, and we don’t feel the ground is currently good enough to provide the right conditions for everyone.
We know how disappointing this will be for competitors, volunteers and everyone who has worked so hard behind the scenes to make the event happen.
💙 Thank you so much for your patience, understanding and continued support. We look forward to 2027.
Thank you all for your understanding. ❤️
West Wilts (3) Cancellation
We regret to inform members that West Wilts has taken the difficult decision to cancel their event on 5th–6th September. We appreciate how disappointing this will be for the members who had entered and were looking forward to competing.
The challenging weather conditions we have been experiencing have had a significant impact on the ground. With rain forecast, the team had remained hopeful that the event could go ahead and prepared the tracks to receive the 50mm of rain that was forecast and slit all of the courses in preparation.
However, the forecast has changed significantly, with the expected rainfall now reduced to around 10mm. This is unlikely to lay the dust or improve the ground conditions sufficiently. Having considered all of the available options, West Wilts does not feel that the ground is currently good enough to provide the right conditions for horses and riders.
We are very sorry that the event has had to be cancelled at such short notice. We know this will be disappointing for competitors, organisers, volunteers and everyone involved in putting the event together, and thank you for your understanding.
Other upcoming events still taking entries
We appreciate that many members will be keen to find an alternative opportunity to compete. There are a number of British Eventing fixtures with entries still open, including:
13th–14th September: Pontispool
19th September: Munstead
19th–20th September: Little Gatcombe
25th-26th September: Moreton Morrell
26th–27th September: South of England
Chillington Hall is also currently still accepting entries for BE100 and BE80U18.
We appreciate that travelling to another event may not be practical for everyone but hope this provides some helpful alternatives. There are also further events around the country with entries still open.
Re-routing and refunds
All competitors who have entered will received a 100% refund (less the booking fee).
We will also support members who wish to re-route their entry following the cancellation. Anyone who re-routes within three days of the event being cancelled, and to an event that is taking place within two weeks of the original event date, will be able to claim a refund of the additional post-ballot fee, if one has been charged.
To claim this, please email [email protected] with details of your entries and the event you have re-routed to.
