So incredibly proud of this team winning their SWUK L10 today. Massive well done Kate and Rafiki 🎉🎉
Rafiki had a history of mouthing/biting hides so his indications were letting him down in both SWUK and Detection Trials.
Thinking of stopping competing because of this problem Kate came to me a bit deflated.
I suggested retraining the indication on Kong, odour he did not have history and muscle memory with, but also an odour he would need when he moved up the ranks in SWUK. I am so incredibly proud and impressed with Kate, as she stopped competing whilst we did this in order to really ensure the foundations were strong. She worked consistently, making each step strong, and this then transferred over to the other odours used in SWUK.
Today a L10, good indications under competition and a very well deserved win 🏆.
It is totally possible to retrain a history of trashing indication if you want it enough!

Looking forward to running a Bronze K9 Detection Trial on Monday 1st June in Derbyshire.
You can choose your odour and open to anyone at any level. This will be a fun trial with lots of feedback, lovely ribbons and a cute trophy for the winner!

A long day training yesterday. Starting at 7.30am for a couple of hours when it was lovely and cool for super searching around the lovely Clarks Village in Street.
Then onto a wonderful venue searching cool brick outhouse and a church. This was a brand new venue, so it was an ideal opportunity for the handlers to work their dogs without having ever seen the area (didn’t let them walk it beforehand!) with unknown number of hides. Such a super chilled afternoon with a super group. They absolutely smashed it 💪😍

Huge thank you to Cheryl of Big Dog Little Dog: Puppy and Dog training for hosting me for a day of indication workshops. What super groups of dogs and handlers 😍. From starting indication training, re starting the journey due to history of trashing or interfering with the hide, building confidence, and teaching indication on a collar for lost dog tracking, everyone was on their individual journeys with their dogs. Thank you to all that attended, you were amazing!

From building skills, working on handler energy, searching in the forest, high and inaccessible hides, SWUK level 5 training, complete beginners building search with a ball, building a more thorough search, handler body language, each individual team training adjusted to their individual needs. Such a variety of training, dogs and handlers! 💪💪💪
