BEASTIES
With this warmer weather, the beasties come alive. These pictures show a tic ( tick) at the base of a dogs eye. And the other one is what a tic looks like , if you are unfamiliar with them. There are some points to concentrate in.
1. DO NOT freak out should you find a tic on your dog. They can be easily dealt with, and where we live there is very seldomly any real issue with them passing diseases on
2. Remember that these guys are lazy. They don't want to be burrowing through thick coats, so they aim for the parts of your dog with the least hair, and therefore the least resistance. Eyebrows, lips, muzzles, chins and even in between your dogs back legs
3. We have seen 2 tic,s in 2 days running. So they are around. And whereas they used to be primarily around livestock, cattle, sheep etc, nowadays they can be found most anywhere that has the right environment for them. This is usually long grass or vegetation. It can be in wooded areas, or it can even be around the beach.
4. After every walk just give your dog a quick check over, the parts of your dog mentioned above. If you find one and you are not comfortable with removing them, then call or message your groomer. They should be able to get rid of the little nuisance very easily and quickly. And I'd imagine they'll be much cheaper than a vet.
5. Finally, refer back to point 1.
DO NOT FREAK OUT. Do not Google them, or like everything, you'll convince yourself of the worst possible scenario. Just be vigilant and call someone to help you out. They're not a big deal if they're dealt with in a timely manner. With the warm weather promising to arrive, if you're wearing shorts, or exposing your ankles / legs , then also just give yourself a quick check over.
