As we kick off the new year, here’s a quick refresher — 10 things to know about Wild Spirit Canines CIC:
🐶 Our waiting list is open for both owner trainers and placement dog handlers! Apply by emailing [email protected]
🐶 We built our organisation to fill gaps in existing support, offering a wide range of training routes and services for autistic adults. We specialise in producing multipurpose assistance dogs for handlers who need mobility or medical alert support, empowering them to gain independence through a tailored partnership.
🐶 We’re based in Carmarthenshire, South Wales — surrounded by stunning scenery. Our handlers get to enjoy the beautiful Welsh landscape during training sessions, from peaceful countryside to coastal views.
🐶 We’re candidates of both Assistance Dogs International (ADI) and Assistance Dogs UK (ADUK).
🐶 We aim for exceptionally high obedience standards for our dogs. This ensures clear and smooth communication between the handler and dog. Many of our handlers enjoy accessing difficult environments, and high obedience standards make this possible.
🐶 Our team reflects the community we support — many of our trainers and the majority of our Trustees have disabilities, with a strong representation of neurodivergent voices guiding our work.
🐶 We believe that dogs are dogs before they are assistance dogs. They don’t work for people as objectified tools — they work within a partnership, with mutual respect and understanding shaping the relationship.
🐶 We continue to develop our holistic approach. This year we introduced a Volunteer Occupational Therapist, and together we work collaboratively to create structures that help handlers utilise task work effectively.
🐶 Our approach focuses on teamwork, ethical, science-based training, and the well-being of everyone involved. While we are heavily focused on the handler’s well-being, canine welfare is equally important — every partnership thrives when both handler and dog are happy, healthy, and confident.
🐶 We collaborate with trusted professionals, from behaviourists to vets, to ensure dogs thrive throughout training.
