Pearl's Story 💕

Pearl came to see us earlier this year after injuring her front leg. Sadly x-rays showed she had broken two bones – her ulna and radius. Pearl is an Italian Greyhound, a breed which has very delicate bone structure, and at the time of her injury Pearl was only 3 months old, weighing just 2.4kg!

As you can imagine, this is not a straightforward injury to repair in such a small patient. After discussions with Pearl’s owner Vet John elected to use a pioneering new plating technique – the Hylock system from VetWelding. The Hylock uses specialised pins and screws – over time the pins are resorbed and replaced with bone by the body. This allows the bone to heal faster and more reliably than using traditional plates and screws.

Following surgery Pearl had a period of strict rest followed by rehabilitation. Her final set of post-op x-rays showed her leg has healed beautifully - great news for Pearl, and her dedicated owners.

We wanted to share Lola's story, as sometimes the conditions our patients present with even surprise us! Lola came to see us with cystitis symptoms that didn't respond to medical treatment. Her owners agreed that we needed to investigate further so we did some imaging, which soon explained poor Lola's symptoms. She had a huge bladder stone, taking up most of the space in her little bladder!

Lola had an operation to remove the stone, and we are sure she must have felt much more comfortable afterwards. We are pleased to report she has fully recovered from her operation. We are waiting for the results of a lab analysis of the stone, so we can hopefully help prevent more stones developing in the future 🤞
