A slightly different post for TXB-K9 today!

As family run business, family means everything and we have taken the day off to support the youngest member on her leaving ceremony before the new adventure begins.

I couldn't be prouder of my girl she is growing into a strong, independent, kind and caring young lady and her new adventure is just about to begin.

Shout out to all the leavers today from TXB-K9, good luck in all your new journey's.

Does your dog know boundaries?

Boundary training is in my opinion one of the most valuable life skills to train your dog. It teaches them how to remain calm, safe and controlled and gives them a clear understanding of where they should stay until released.

Below are some benefits to Boundary training.
✅️ Builds impulse control
✅️ Creates & encourages a calmer mindset for at home & out and about
✅️ Strengthens communication
✅️ Most importantly improves on safety

There are many more advantages to boundary training. Here at TXB-K9 we believe boundary training is more than just a dog staying on a bed or behind a line, it develops self-control, focus, as well as a calm mind.
All these skills help create a strong foundation for obedience both at home and out in the real world.

Some viewers may find this distressing but I feel many people need to see this to truly understand how the heat can affect your dog, worst case resulting in you losing your dog.

So please think before taking your dogs out for walks and in cars!

We had the lovely Beebs come and stay with us 🐾

During her stay we had lots of fun, training and cuddles.

Here at TXB-K9 we believe keeping up with training is a must, keeping your dog on the right track.

Place Training - Why is it important?

Because it teaches a dog to stay calm within the home, around distractions, building emotional regulation and confidence.

Teaching Place removes the need on relying on physical restraints or constant corrections and allows your dogs to learn to choose calm behaviour because it is more rewarding.

A few more benefits of Place Training are:

✅️ Creates a safe space
✅️ Supports public manners
✅️ Strengthens communication with your dog

So whether you use a dog bed, mat, elevated bed or place box teaching your dog Place will only benefit you both.

A big hello from Branston 🐾

Branston is a regular with us while his family are away.

His nickname is pickle because everyone loves Branston Pickle 😉 and although he is amazingly good he does have a pickle side.

Branston is a well trained boy but when he stays we work on many different areas including boundaries, loose lead walking, recall and more, along with lots of adventures out and about.

Why you ask?

Because consistency is key when training dogs regardless if they are staying with you or at home it will only strengthen the behaviours we are asking for.

How are you keeping your doggos cool??

Here are a few tips that can help 🐾

✅️ Access to fresh cool water (little but often, don'tlet them over drink this can cause bloating)

✅️ Keep them in shaded or air-conditioned areas

✅️ use cooling mats or elevated beds to allow airflow underneath

✅️ my personal favourite frozen enrichment treats like frozen licky mats or food puzzle toys, stuffed raw food in trachea or cow hooves, ice or broth cubes

A few things to avoid!

❌️ walks in peak heat times

❌️ intense exercise

❌️ taking out/leaving in hot cars

Remember no dog died has ever died from missing a walk or training.

With the current heat, your dog's safety and wellbeing should always come first. High temperatures can quickly lead to heatstroke, which can be life-threatening.

Skipping a walk for a day or two won't harm your dog, but exercising in extreme heat can. Keep your dogs cool, provide plenty of fresh water, and choose indoor enrichment or shorter walks during the cooler parts of the day.

Stay safe, stay sensible, and put your dog's health first. 🐾☀️
