Went to go watch Jill Scott cycle through Tod on her Comic Relief challenge 🚲

She's doing a five day, 395 mile journey running and cycling from Wembley Stadium to Sunderland.

Woohoo lol (I sound awful) but she did say thank you 😊

It's 'Small Business Week' so I'd like to share a little of what it's like to have one.

I have had Wonderland Walks from the age of 19 (I am now 30), I left school and didn't know what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to get straight into paid work, I couldn't find what I was looking for that would suit my needs (I am an anxious human!), so I made my job instead.

To be a small business, you have to be many people:
- The face of the business
- The accountant
- The photographer
- The social media person
- The customer service
- The receptionist (text messages/phone calls day and night)
- And many more!

Your income is never stable, and this year for me has been paticularly hard. Even booking someone for one walk could make a huge difference.

Challenges we face:
- The weather
- Physical strain
- Injury and illness (no sick pay)
- Inconsistent income
- Competitive market
- Admin and paperwork
- And more!

This all sounds like a huge complaint, but it's just real life. These are the facts of running a small business. There's a lot more too it than people ever think.

And despite all that, I do really love my job. I get to be outdoors with my little besties having a great time.

It's always more than "just walking a dog" πŸ•

Just a reminder as the hotter days are starting to arrive:

πŸ“Œ Provide water and shade: If dogs are outside, they should be supplied with ample water and shade, and the shifting sun needs to be taken into account.

πŸ“Œ Try avoid hot pavements: Dogs’ footpads easily burn on heated roads, pavement and sand. So the less time on pavements the better.

πŸ“Œ Cut walk time down: Do not insist on keeping them out for long periods of time just because it's a 'nice day'. Even brief periods of direct exposure to the sun during a heatwave can have life-threatening consequences.

πŸ“Œ Go on walks earlier in the day: It's always cooler in the mornings then it is in the afternoon. If you can, walk your dog/s before it gets too hot.
