West Berkshire Roastery Home of Berkshire Coffee - for those who care what’s in their cup Small batch speciality coffee roasters.

Nestled near the local lakes and nature reserve in Thatcham, one of the oldest continually inhabited settlements in England - our Award Winning coffee is small batch hand-roasted to order, this ensures it loses none of its original flavour and maintains a richer fuller taste for longer. Every single coffee bean reflects our commitment to a sustainable business and our direct trade partnerships with our farmers. We only use speciality grade beans, which have cleaner more distinctive flavours than cheaper commercial coffees, and are traceable to the skilled farmers and their farms across the world. These beans are carefully roasted to produce select flavours to suit a wide range of styles and tastes.

Something wickedly delicious has been brewing at the Roastery... 🔮

Introducing RESTING WITCH FACE! 🕷️

Our latest Halloween creation is a devilishly delicious dark roast, packed with rich dark chocolate and toasted hazelnut flavours. Bold, smooth and wonderfully nutty, it's the perfect potion for those who like their coffee on the dark side. 🖤

No tricks here, just seriously good coffee. Although we can't promise it won't put a spell on you! 🪄

A little less glamorous than roasting coffee… 🧹☕

Ella’s been getting her hands dirty giving our Giesen a proper clean. Judging by the photos, the roaster’s come out of it cleaner than she has. 😂

Roasting leaves behind oils, dust and chaff - the papery skin released from the beans. Clearing it out keeps the airflow working properly, helps us roast consistently and reduces fire risk.

Regular cleaning and maintenance keep the machine running reliably and your coffee tasting as it should.

Good coffee takes a bit of elbow grease! ‼️

☕️ Happy International Coffee Day… for yesterday!

We were a little too busy roasting and getting your orders out of the door to actually post anything - so firstly, thank you to everyone who’s ordered from us this week.

We’re hoping it’s still 1st October somewhere in the world… 😅

International Coffee Day is a good excuse to remember just how much goes into the cup we drink every day.

Long before the beans reach our roastery, there are farmers and workers growing and picking coffee cherries, processing them, drying them, sorting them and preparing them for their journey halfway around the world. We just get the privilege of taking it from there, roasting it and sending it on to you.

And, of course, a special mention for the legendary Ethiopian goats who supposedly started all this by munching on coffee cherries and becoming suspiciously energetic. 🐐☕️ Their herder noticed, the story goes, and several centuries later here we all are… completely obsessed with coffee.

So here’s to the farmers, the pickers, the processors, the exporters, the importers, the roasters - and most importantly, all of you who enjoy the final cup.

Thank you for sharing our interest/enthusiasm/mild obsession with coffee.

Here’s to the cup! ☕️

☕️ A little Sunday update from the Roastery…

Our fresh Peru harvest has been keeping the roaster busy this week, and we’ve also been getting rather excited about some new coffees heading our way from Aquiares Estate in Costa Rica. 🇨🇷 Aquiares Coffee & Community

Next week we’ll be cupping, roasting and experimenting to see which ones make the cut. There are some seriously good coffees amongst them!

We’re also calling last orders on our Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 - once the current batch is gone, that’s it.

We’re looking forward to Monday and another week of trying to make your morning coffee that little bit better. ☕️

The Giesen G15 is officially up and roasting! It’s the very first G15 in the UK with all the latest technology and upgrades.

It’s a serious bit of kit, but the goal is pretty simple: keep the coffee as good as it can be.

We’re still doing things the WBR way, small batches, hands-on roasting and plenty of attention to detail. The G15 gives us even more control and consistency, helping us get the best out of every coffee while keeping that traditional small-batch approach.

Modern technology. Traditional roasting.

🎅🏼 Santa’s brought us a little early Christmas present!

We’ve got a new bit of kit to help make packing all your coffee orders a little easier, and we’re really looking forward to putting it to good use over the hopefully busy Christmas period!

It’s only a small thing, but it’s one of those bits of kit that makes a big difference when the orders start rolling in.

And as always, a massive thank you to everyone who has bought from us, comes back for more and continues to support what we do. We honestly wouldn’t be able to keep doing this without you, and we’re incredibly grateful. 🙌🏻

Now… let’s get back to roasting and giving this coffee vacuum a proper good workout! 😂☕️
