🐾August Bank holiday🐾

We will be closed Monday 31st August for the bank holiday.

As we approach the Bank Holiday please check your pet's medication supplies.

If your pet needs repeat medication, please submit your request as early as possible to ensure it's ready before the holiday weekend.

If you need any urgent advice or help whilst we are closed, please phone us for the details of our local out of hours service provider, South Downs Emergency Vets.

Lovely Oliver (right) came in for his post-operative dental check following a recent dental procedure where he had some teeth extracted. 💙

Oliver’s brother Rio (left) came along for the visit too and couldn’t resist the liver paste… or a chance to get in on the photo!

These check-ups are carried out by our veterinary nurses to make sure the gums are healing well after treatment and to discuss ongoing dental care.

Preventative dental care is very important for your pet’s overall health. Just like us, pets can develop plaque and tartar on their teeth. If plaque isn’t regularly removed, it can harden into tartar and contribute to gum disease, bad breath, pain and tooth loss.

There are lots of ways you can help look after your pet’s teeth at home, including:

🐾 Regular tooth brushing – brushing your pet’s teeth with a pet-safe toothpaste is one of the best ways to reduce plaque build-up. Ideally, introduce brushing gradually from a young age so it becomes part of their routine.

🐾 Dental diets and chews – some specially designed diets and dental products can help reduce plaque and tartar. Your veterinary team can advise on suitable options for your individual pet.

🐾 Regular dental checks – your vet will check your pet’s mouth during routine examinations and can advise if further dental treatment is needed.

🐾 Watch for changes – bad breath, red or bleeding gums, difficulty eating, dropping food, pawing at the mouth or changes in chewing can all be signs of dental disease and should be checked by your veterinary team.

The beautiful Badger recently spent the day with us after presenting with vomiting, diarrhoea and a lack of appetite.

Our vet Sophie carried out a full clinical examination and the necessary investigations and diagnostics. As Badger was showing signs of gastrointestinal upset and was at risk of becoming dehydrated, she was started on intravenous (IV) fluid therapy to help maintain her hydration and support her circulation.
Our nursing team provided close monitoring and supportive care throughout the day, keeping a careful eye on her clinical signs and response to treatment. 🩺💧

Despite feeling poorly, Badger was an incredibly brave pup and was a wonderful patient for the whole team. We’re delighted that she responded well to treatment and is now back home and back to her normal, happy and bouncy self! 🥰🐶

We’re so pleased to see you feeling better Badger! 💕🐾

Meet Seven, the sweetest boy! 💙🐶

Seven has been visiting our veterinary nurses every month for his 'Happy Puppy Cuddle' consults, where he gets weighed, enjoys plenty of fuss, and has a quick check to make sure everything is progressing well as he grows. He also goes home with his flea and worming treatment too!

Did you know we offer FREE monthly 'Happy Puppy Cuddle' consults until they're 6 months old? It's a wonderful way to help your new pet build positive experiences at the practice while keeping an eye on their growth and development.

Meet Missy, our lovely 13-year-old Beagle! 🐾

Missy recently came in to have some lumps removed from her foot, along with a dental procedure. She took everything in her stride and has recovered remarkably well from her anaesthetic.

We're delighted to see that she's already back enjoying her favourite places and getting plenty of well-earned rest and cuddles at home. ❤️

We love receiving updates and photos of our happy patients after their procedures – seeing them back to their normal selves is one of the best parts of our job!

🐾 FOUND CAT 🐾

A young black-and-white female cat, approximately 5–6 months old, was found near Thakeham Primary School yesterday.

She has been safely handed in and checked for a microchip, but unfortunately she is not microchipped.

🐾 Meet Moby, the sweetest Chihuahua! 🐾

Here he is with our Registered Veterinary Nurse, Louisa, having a pre-operative ECG before his castration procedure.

At our practice, every general anaesthetic is carefully tailored to each patient's individual needs, taking into account their age, health status and any pre-existing conditions. Before anaesthesia, our vets and nurses carry out thorough assessments to help ensure the safest possible care.

For some patients, particularly those over 7 years of age, your vet may also recommend pre-anaesthetic blood tests. These tests can help identify any underlying health issues, assess how well vital organs such as the liver and kidneys are functioning, and evaluate blood cell counts. Checking red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets can help detect problems such as anaemia, infection, inflammation or clotting abnormalities before a procedure, allowing us to tailor the anaesthetic plan even more carefully.

Moby was a superstar during his day with us and received plenty of cuddles from the team throughout his visit! ❤️🐶
