Last week we celebrated the retirement of Catherine Salthouse who worked in our lab and enjoyed some lunchtime fish and chips together. Catherine has been an integral part of the Three Counties Equine Hospital team for over 20 years, providing a wealth of experience in running the laboratory. We will miss Catherine dearly and wish her a really happy retirement full of racing and friends.๐Ÿ‡

Faecal worm egg counts can help us understand the parasite burden within your herd and provide individual recommendations based on your horseโ€™s history, current exposure and previous results.

We need to protect the wormers we have from resistance, and importantly, many horses may not need treatment at all. Targeted testing helps us make informed decisions about which horses need treating, and when.

Take advantage of this great rate and help protect both your horse and your herd.

Firework season can be a worrying time for horse owners, but taking a few simple steps in advance can help reduce stress and keep your horse safe and comfortable.

Here are a few things you can do now:

๐Ÿด Check your fencing, gates and stable doors and make any repairs that are needed.

๐Ÿด Think about how your horse has responded to fireworks in the past. Would they be happier stabled or turned out? Plan ahead and make sure their environment is as safe and secure as possible.

๐Ÿด Keep to your horseโ€™s normal routine as much as possible. Familiar routines can help provide reassurance.

๐Ÿด Make sure your horse is microchipped and appropriately identified, in case they escape or become separated from you.

๐Ÿด Speak to your vet early if your horse has struggled with fireworks before. There are management strategies and, where appropriate, medications that may help.

Remember, itโ€™s always easier to prepare before the fireworks begin than to react once theyโ€™re underway.

If youโ€™re concerned about how your horse may cope this firework season, contact our team for advice. Weโ€™re here to help keep your horse safe, calm and comfortable. โค๏ธ
