Such a lovely evening working through lots of fun training content, and what a brilliant bunch of students you’ve all been! 🥰

I’ve loved watching you all learn, grow and tackle new challenges along the way.

Betty asking for fuss and cuddles… so obviously I oblige. 🥹❤️

But then I pause.

And she asks for more.

So I continue.

Then I pause again…

And she asks for more again. 😂🐻

This is something I really love about consent-based handling.

Rather than assuming that because our dog has accepted one interaction, they want us to continue touching them, we can give them opportunities to communicate whether they’d like more.

Betty is very clear.

“Yes please, Mum. Keep going.” 😂

But equally, if she moved away, turned her head or showed me that she’d had enough, I’d respect that too.

It doesn’t mean we can never handle our dogs when they don’t want it — there are obviously times when necessary care, grooming or veterinary handling has to happen.

But for everyday affection and interaction, I love giving our dogs the opportunity to have a say.

Because cuddles are much nicer when both parties have chosen them. ❤️🐾
