🍰 **The Great Southwater Bake Off - Week Four!** 🧁

Week Four is of course Bread Week - one of Paul Hollywood's favourite areas of baking and as it turns out one of the Southwater team's favourite areas of eating!!

Before we even managed to snap the photos most of the bready bakes from Debbie and Mel were gone - but don't worry, we still managed to monitor the voting... (and Mel cleverly snapped a pic in advance!)

We fear a similar occurence with disappearing entries will occur with week five's Dessert theme - photographer Naomi will have to be quick off the mark... wish her luck 🤣

There’s a mystery unfolding in Southwater’s reception… 🔍🦔

It started with a little 3D-printed hedgehog. Nobody knew where it had come from, but then, one by one, more animals began appearing!

We’re now up to seven: three cats, two chameleons, a dog and the original hedgehog.

Is it a member of the team? A visitor quietly adding to the collection? Our reception team is still none the wiser!

Whoever our mystery animal supplier is, thank you for making us smile.

We’re keeping an eye out to see who joins the line-up next… 👀

Santa Paws is back! 🎄🐾

Every year, rescue centres work tirelessly to care for animals in need, and once again we’d love your help to make Christmas extra special for them. 💕

We’re asking for Christmas-wrapped shoeboxes or festive gift bags filled with goodies for dogs, cats and rabbits.

Donations will go to Hilbrae Pets Hotel and Stray Kennels, Next Steps Cat Rescue Shropshire, Honey Bun Haven- rescue and sanctuary Lifelines Cat Rescue and Bunny Angels UK.

Boxes can include:

🦴 Toys
🐾 Unopened treats or food
🛏️ Blankets, beds or towels
🎁 Pet accessories (bowls, brushes, or small animal chew toys)
🐰 For rabbits/guinea pigs, please consider hay, safe chew toys, or small animal treats.

Please label your gifts for a Dog, Cat or Rabbit so we can deliver them to the right rescue centre.

🎅 All donations must be received here at Southwater Vets in Stafford Court by December 18th to give Santa Paws time to deliver them for Christmas morning!

🐶 Waiting room? More like relaxation room… 💙

Clearly feeling very at home here at Southwater, this little one decided there was no need to worry about waiting for an appointment - just find a comfy spot and relax. 🐾

We love seeing our patients feeling happy and comfortable when they come to visit us, especially when they look quite this cute doing it!

We think someone has already mastered the art of taking it easy… 💙

Rela came to Southwater as a new dog owner and we are so chuffed to hear she has been really happy with the support she and her dog have received. 🐾

🐱 Indoor cats need entertainment too! 🐾

While our indoor cats might enjoy a cosy life at home, they still need plenty of opportunities to play, explore and use their natural instincts.

Keeping your cat mentally and physically stimulated can help prevent boredom and support their overall health and wellbeing - and even small changes around the home can make a difference.

From window watching and interactive play to puzzle feeders, climbing spaces and simple cardboard boxes, there are lots of ways to make life indoors more interesting. 💙

❤️ World Mental Health Day ❤️

Today is World Mental Health Day, and we wanted to take a moment to recognise the people behind the pets here at Southwater.

Working in veterinary practice is incredibly rewarding. We get to meet wonderful animals, watch puppies and kittens grow, help pets feel better and share many happy moments with the families who love them.

But it isn’t always puppies and kittens.

There are difficult cases, poorly pets, emergencies and times when, despite everyone doing everything they can, there are sad outcomes. When a family loses a much-loved pet, our team feels that loss too.

Veterinary medicine is a caring profession, and the people who choose it do so because they care deeply about animals and their wellbeing. Sometimes, that means carrying the emotional weight of difficult days long after the working day has finished.

So, on World Mental Health Day, we simply want to ask everyone to remember the person behind the uniform.

And to our own wonderful Southwater team - thank you for everything you do for our patients, our clients and each other. ❤️🐾

💙 Happy International Veterinary Nurse Day! 🐾

Today we’re celebrating the brilliant Veterinary Nurses who play such an important part in life here at Southwater Vets.

From caring for patients before, during and after surgery to running nurse clinics, monitoring anaesthetics, taking blood samples, providing advice to owners and, of course, offering plenty of reassurance and cuddles when they’re needed most - there is so much that happens behind the scenes thanks to our nursing team.

Their knowledge, skill and compassion make a huge difference to our patients every single day, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything they do.

So today, we’d like to say a very big THANK YOU to our fantastic Veterinary Nurses! 💙

What a wonderful review to receive from Sophie - and such a lovely example of the difference patience and positive experiences can make. 🐾

Sophie told us how the team have taken things at a pace that suits her nervous rescue, helping him become more comfortable and confident with each visit. In fact, he’s now so happy to see us that he tries to push the door open to get inside!

It’s also great to hear that our separate entrance has made visits easier when seeing other dogs can become a little overwhelming.
