A little Friday evening website update… 👀

I’ve just added a small number of gorgeous sexed female Gandanameno velvet spiders, approximately 1.5–2cm, to the website! 🥰

These girls are absolutely beautiful — and if you’ve been waiting for a confirmed female rather than taking your chances with an unsexed baby, this is your opportunity. 🕸️

You might want to look VERY closely at this one… 👀🦂

That piece of cork bark is hiding a whole load of teeny tiny Liocheles australasiae — Pygmy Wood Scorpion babies! 🥹🖤

They’re absolutely minuscule! At first you barely notice them, then suddenly you start seeing tiny scorpions everywhere 😂

Looks like baby fever at Occult Exotics isn’t limited to the spiders!

☀️ Looks like summer isn’t finished with us yet! 😅

Temperatures are set to climb again next week, which unfortunately means live postage will need to take another little pause. 📦🕷️

I know everyone is excited to receive their new little ones, but their safety will always come before getting them out quickly. 🖤

I’ll be keeping a close eye on the forecast and as soon as we have a safe window for postage, we’ll be back on the road!

In the meantime, orders can still be placed as normal — they’ll simply be held safely here until temperatures allow them to travel. 🕸️

Thank you SO much to everyone waiting for an order for being patient and understanding. It genuinely makes weather delays like this so much easier. 🥰

And since apparently we’re having another round of summer… 😂

Another batch of Gandanameno babies has hatched! 🥹🖤

Just look at this tiny little sling exploring my hand. They’re unbelievably small, but absolutely full of character already.

Watching these little velvet spiders emerge never gets old. It’s one of my favourite parts of breeding them.

These two gorgeous Phidippus regius Florida babies are now looking for their forever homes. 🥹

Just look at those little faces… and those tiny white “paint splat” markings on their abdomens! Every jumping spider has its own unique personality, and it’s always exciting wondering what they’ll look like as they mature.

They’re currently feeding well and are ready for their next adventure. 💚

Trying to get some photos of the P. regius Florida babies for the website seemed like a great idea… until I remembered how impossible they are to photograph! 😂🕷️

One second they’re posing perfectly, the next they’re either halfway out of frame, blurry, or launching themselves at the camera. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Safe to say, there were a lot more outtakes than good photos! 😅

📸 Let’s see your funniest or worst spider photos! Blurry, zoomies, tiny specks, accidental close-ups… I can’t be the only one with a camera roll full of disasters! 😂👇

🕷️ Is your jumping spider hungry? 🤔

One of the questions I’m asked most often is “How do I know when to feed my jumper?”

The answer is… look at the abdomen!

As a general guide:
🖤 Starving – Feed as soon as possible.
🖤 Hungry – Ready for a meal.
🖤 Fed – A healthy abdomen size.
🖤 Overfed – Give them time to digest before offering more food.

Remember, this is a basic guide and abdomen size can vary between species, age and individual spiders. It’s always better to feed based on your spider’s condition rather than sticking to a strict schedule.

I’ve put together this simple feeding chart to help you judge when your jumping spider might be ready for their next meal. Feel free to save it for future reference! 😊
