Today marks a special and incredible milestone in my guide dog partnership with .

Today is FIVE YEARS to the day we first starting training together at the Cliffden Hotel, Teignmouth, Devon which was the very start of our journey together.

It's been an amazing journey already. Sid has racked up tens of thousands (at least) of miles in travelling with me, including going to three foreign countries. He has become somewhat a famous guide dog for various reasons, being on the internet and TV!

The dog is so special to me because we've grown into an amazing duo that has had ups and downs over the last five years but mostly ups. There have been times where I thought to myself maybe he isn't worth the hassle when he has misbehaved and I have had a bad day but I'm glad I stuck through those hard times because when I needed him the most he was there.

Throughout a pandemic where we were locked away and we live on our own in a small one bedroom flat, he was the one constant that kept me going when I was at my lowest points with depression and with boredom.

In the middle of this pandemic I experienced by far the worst decline in my vision ever and was reduced to being only able to see clearly a metre or two in front of me. Sid got me through this terrible last seven months whilst I waited for the cataract surgery I had little over a week ago.

I have realised how so important he is to me and the last seven months taught me never to take anything for granted, I don't know how I would have coped and actually don't think I would have been able to cope without him.

To think he will be seven years old in July is so scary because it means there really isn't long left of this companionship, maybe another two or three years before he has to hang up the harness for the final time, and I know that time will go so quickly.

That's why I will treasure every moment we have together because when that time does come it will genuinely be a heart breaker. What a special animal he is, I love him unconditionally just as he does with me and that bond between us is so strong now from where we were on this day five years ago when he wouldn't even put the harness on for me and the guide dog instructor had to help me ๐Ÿคฃ

Here's to the next chapter for us, especially with my vision having been dramatically improved from the last seven months. Hopefully many more memories to be made with this one โ™ฅ๏ธ

What is also crazy is I believe we have been allocated the exact same room (112) as the room we had back then when we were on training together!

Four Years Ago Today

Sid's first day living with me back home in Plymouth.

On this day four years ago, Sid and I travelled back to Plymouth following the completion of our ten-day residential training stay in Teignmouth in order to continue and complete the final two weeks of training back home.

Here Sid is getting himself comfortable in his brand new surroundings as he spent his first day and night living with me.

Incidentally, Sid no longer does this where he stretches right out with his back legs right out, which is a shame as I kind of miss it as it was quite humorous to see.

I cannot believe it has already been four years!

I guess that debate is settled then ;) ๐Ÿพ

Four Yeara Ago Today

On this day four years ago back in 2016, I met Sid for the first time on our matching visit by Guide Dogs. This was the day they assessed Sid was the right dog for me and that I would be booked in for training with him.

A truly special day that I will never forget. Below are the first two photos I ever took of him.
