As many of us know, Monty Robertās passed this week.
When I was a traditionalist there came a time where the whole thing just didnāt sit right with me so I started exploring Montyās work.
I remember sitting in a freezing barn in Cornwall so very excited to see the man himself work with horses. I ended up leaving early because I just couldnāt sit through anymore of what I was seeing.
The truth is I found it hard to watch. I couldnāt put my finger on why at the time because I was inexperienced and didnāt really know anything about horse behaviour but the horses werenāt happy. To me it didnāt seem any different to what Iād done for years and what I was trying to come away from. In fact I wasnāt sure if it was worse.
Having said that, this guy was my way out. It wasnāt what I was looking for but he was a catalyst into my search for a kinder way of doing things with horses. Iām glad I didnāt stop there with Monty but Iām also glad that he was there as a side stepping stone when there was little else around at the time.
It was a learning curve in more ways than one.
Regardless of whether we thought he was the bees knees or not, the fact remains that, for me, he showed me that it was ok to walk a different path to what I walking and Iām grateful for that.
We are all on a journeyā¤ļø
