🐕Meet Enzo.

❤️This handsome lad struggles with other dogs out and about.
His lovely family have put some hard work into his training but the advice from a trainer to keep administering corrections didn’t sit right with them.
They were looking for a consistent and kind way to work with their lad.

We are going to support this boy through adolescence by
✅Putting the relationship first
✅Building skills away from triggers so there are good options as second nature when needed
✅Helping Enzo to think and make good choices
✅Teaching that it pays to come away from a trigger and engage with your handler
✅Learning to work in different arousal levels
✅And tolerate a little frustration from time to time

Adolescence can last a long time for shepherds, let’s make it a fun time as well as a long time!🤣

🐾Meet Rocky. He’s a typical guarding breed, aware of everything, especially other dogs …..

😍Today he did some great work at the Cricket Club with another large dog on the field.

✅We let him look from a distance
✅We interrupted before that look intensified to a reaction
✅By getting him sniffing to break the gaze and shift his mindset
✅We practiced our ‘get out of dodge moves’
🎉And even found time for some play.

🙌We think Rocky aced it - he’s such a handsome dude!

Training Tips Tuesday
🤔Give your dog the time to think!
❓How many times do you cue your dog, then re-cue before they’ve had time to figure out the ask?

✅In Mantrailing we learn to give our dogs space to work and think.
✅We don’t know where the scent trail is, they do!
✅Here Anita gives Meadow the freedom to work it out
✅And boom 💥 the problem is solved

🧠Apply that into your day to day training, make space for your dog to use their brain before stepping in to help.
💡Dogs who think more, learn more!
