“But why are you getting another puppy? You had a pretty much perfect dog.”

Yes, I did.

I sold a dog I’d put a ridiculous amount of time, work, patience and training into.

So why on earth would I start again?

Because I want to help you people with young dogs, puppies what can be achieved with the right training.

I’m not getting a puppy because I think my previous dog wasn’t good enough. Shark was perfect in every way,

I’m getting one because I want people to see what can genuinely be achieved when you take a puppy from 0 to hero with the right foundations, the right training and the right mindset.

And here’s the bit some people won’t like…

The puppy WILL challenge me.

At certain ages, I fully expect it. I know the lines. I know what can potentially come with them.

But I’m not going to cry about it.

I’m not going to say, “He’s stubborn.”
I’m not going to say, “He’s dominant.”
I’m not going to take it personally because my puppy suddenly decides the world is more interesting than me.

I’ll adapt.

We work through it.
We correct what needs correcting.
We change what needs changing.
And we keep moving forward.

Because here’s something I strongly believe:

If you’re constantly fighting with your dog, you’ve probably got the wrong relationship.

I don’t want a dog that obeys me because it’s scared of getting something wrong.

I want a dog that trusts me, understands me, wants to work with me and knows that we’re a team.

The foundation comes first.

Bond. Relationship. Communication. Training.

Get those right and you give yourself something to build on.

And no, I’m not expecting a perfect puppy.

Actually, I’m expecting the opposite.

I’m expecting mistakes.
I’m expecting setbacks.
I’m expecting testing phases.
I’m expecting days where I question my life choices. 😂

That’s the point.

Anyone can show you the finished dog. (That’s debatable in the current situation in the dog industry now days ) 😂

I want to show you the journey.

From 0 to hero.

And when people tell me, “My puppy could never do that…”

Maby you couldn’t be taught the skill to teach you puppy to do that

Maby you don’t want to learn the skill.

I’ve had an assessment with these two today, and their owner wants to get a few things under control with the bigger of the two.

The main areas we’ll be working on are:

• Prey drive
• Taking rough play a little too far
• Off-lead reliability
• On-lead manners

Obviously, I needed to see them both off lead to assess the rough play properly… and it also quickly became very clear why they need some help with their recall!

20 minutes later… let’s just say it definitely wasn’t an enjoyable experience for the owner!

The good news is, they’re eager to get started and have now booked in for some 1-2-1 training. 👌

Looking forward to getting started and helping them become a little more manageable, reliable and enjoyable to live with!

Great 121 today! 🐾

Lots of learning for the owners, and a really good opportunity to see more of this dog’s true character.

He originally came in for reactivity, bullying his owners, snapping at them, and loose-lead walking. During his assessment, he didn’t really show his true self, but today I saw a little more of what was going on.

Some dogs will challenge what we ask them to do, especially when it conflicts with what they want to do. This is completely normal and is often just a little hurdle for the dog to work through. They need to understand that we are responsible for guiding them, rather than them being in control of us. In my opinion, this behaviour needs to be addressed and clear leadership established to create a happy, balanced relationship.

He was very over-aroused and simply didn’t understand what behaviour was expected of him. So, we started the session from the car and focused on teaching him exactly what we wanted a nice, calm, controlled dog.

With better handling and clear communication from his owners, everything started to fall into place, and a lot of the unwanted behaviours began to disappear.

Great work from the owners today! 👏 They listened, took everything on board, and made some really positive changes.

A great session with lots of learning for both dog and owners.
