Last one of the day, and a session right in the eye of the storm, was the wizard himself, Emrys! 🧙‍♂️🌪️🤣

What a bloody trooper this lad was! Gale-force winds and sideways rain, and he still worked his socks off! 💪🏻🔥

We worked on his stops, backs and directions, along with calling him away from things he really wanted. Plenty going on and the weather trying its absolute best to ruin the party, but this lad rose to the challenge! 👏🏻

The weather certainly didn’t stop this wizard today! 🧙‍♂️🔥

Well done, Mr Emrys, and well done to Mum for keeping going through what turned into a full-on storm! I think we all deserved a bloody medal today! 🤣🌪️💪🏻

Next up we had the powerhouse that is Murphy! 💪🏻🔥

Great session today progressing his stop whistle and the distance is starting to come! Bloody buzzing for this lad! 🤩

He worked hard through his games today, and we also added in stopping while other things were out. Taking our line and stopping, even when there’s something out there you REALLY want! 👀😂

Building those foundations and adding the layers bit by bit!

Well done, Murphy! Keep smashing it, lad! 💪🏻🔥

Next up we had the lad himself, Otis! 🔥💪🏻

Today we progressed from last week’s session, working off lead at heel while things were being thrown in front of him as we walked.

We’ll keep building this up with a range of different distractions, gradually making things harder as he progresses.

It’s important that Otis understands how to stay steady at heel when he heads out shooting, even when there’s plenty going on around him!

Young man worked hard today! 💪🏻🔥 Lots more to build on, but we’re getting there! 🐾

First up today we had the legend that is Isla! ❤️🐾

Last week we decided to go back to basics and rebuild a few areas. This year has been a tough one for Isla and her mum, so naturally training had to take a back seat for a while.

We had a good chat last week and decided LET’S REBUILD! Get those foundations strong and everything feeling sharp again 💪🏻🔥

And honestly, what a session today! Isla was absolutely all over it! 😍 We worked on distance to the placeboard, recalling away from things she really wanted, and stop whistle work, all built into our foundation games and play.

We finished with a settle, bringing everything back down again.

Brilliant work, ladies! We’re building it back up, having fun and enjoying the journey. Let’s do this! 🔥💪🏻❤️

Next up we had the stunning little Daisy 🌼😍

First session with this little lady and she arrived full of sass and ready to get stuck in! 🤣💪🏻

We worked on the basics, including auto sits, recall, placeboard work and sit training, but also started teaching Daisy to do absolutely nothing! 😂 Learning to switch off and just chill is an important skill too.

Cracking first session, little lady! Well done Daisy 🌼🐾

Next up we had the little sweet soul Jasmine 🥰🐾

A lovely little session working on her hunting and encouraging her to really use that nose! 👃🏻 Getting her nose down and focused on the job helps her tune out all the other things going on around her and learn to stay on task.

Well done, little lady, you worked hard! 💪🏻❤️

First up today we had the handsome young chap Arlo 😍🐾

A cracking first session working on his foundations and how we set him up for success. We worked on connection, auto sits, staying close while mooching about and recall. We also introduced the idea that when we stop, he stops and sits with us, whether on or off lead.

A really good session building those foundations and helping this lad understand what we’re asking of him. He worked his little socks off! 💪🏻

Great work, Mr Arlo! 👏🏻🐾

Had a lovely morning doing something a little different today! 🥰

I was really honoured to be invited as a guest trainer to Reaseheath College to give a little demo and talk about gundogs with their Animal Management students.

It was lovely to chat about what we do, how our training is applied to working dogs and give them a little insight into the world of gundogs.

Little Jimmy came along to do his bit, and as always, he won the crowd over! ⭐ He absolutely loves a demo and was a little star as usual. ❤️

What was really lovely was how interested the students and teachers were in experiencing a real shoot day and seeing how everything works in practice. If anyone knows of any shoots that might be willing to welcome them along to experience it, please give me a shout. It would be a fantastic opportunity for them to see what we do out in the real world.

We had a brilliant time, felt so welcome, and what a cracking place Reaseheath is for young people to explore courses and careers outside the more mainstream routes. 💪🏻

Thank you for having us — we thoroughly enjoyed it! ❤️🐾

More training updates with Griff! 🐾

We’ve just returned from a training weekend on the Devon/Somerset borders, and I’ve come home with bucket loads to think about!

There were some real positives, some challenges, a fair bit of frustration and a healthy dose of reality. Griff is still a very immature two-year-old, and there’s plenty of work ahead of us.

But the weekend was also a reminder that progress isn't always obvious, that comparing our dogs with others rarely helps, and that sometimes we need to adjust our expectations and work with the dog we have in front of us.

Even as a dog trainer, putting all the right things into practice with your own dog isn't always easy!

I’ve written a new blog about our weekend, the things that went well, the bits that didn’t, and the lessons I’ve brought home with me.

Because training isn't just about what our dogs learn. Sometimes, it's about what we learn about ourselves, too.

Last of the day was little pocket-sized sassy pants Flow! 🤣❤️

A cracking session with this little lady! We worked on her hunt whistle, teaching her to understand the proximity of an area, get her nose down and really hold that hunting area rather than rushing off. 🐾

We then moved on to her blind directions, building that trust in her handler and helping her believe there’s something there even when she can’t see it herself!

Little lady worked bloody hard today and smashed it! 💪🏻💪🏻🔥🔥
