Buddy’s bowl today.

Not everything in his bowl is meat. We like to add a few extras too.

Organic h**p seeds are one of Buddy’s regular additions, providing healthy fats, fibre and a range of naturally occurring nutrients. His eggshells don’t go to waste either they’re crushed up and added back into his food as a natural source of calcium.

They’re only small additions, but it’s the little things that help make up Buddy’s varied diet.

A simple mistake a lot of dog owners make is treating feeding guides as rules.

They’re not.

They’re starting points.

The feeding guide on the side of a bag doesn’t know:

• Your dog’s metabolism
• Activity levels
• Age
• Breed
• Body condition
• Health status

Two dogs can weigh exactly the same and require completely different amounts of food.

The number on the chart isn’t what matters most.

The dog in front of you does.

Learn to assess body condition, energy levels, muscle tone and overall health rather than blindly following a chart.

Buddy’s meals are adjusted based on the dog, not the packaging.

Food for thought.

Follow along this week as I share Buddy’s meals each day.

Birmingham city centre with the pack 🐾

Trains, train stations, busy streets, shopping centres, cafés, traffic, crowds and everything else a city can throw at them.

Days like these give dogs the opportunity to experience the world in a structured way while building confidence, engagement and good habits around distractions.

Every environment presents a new challenge. The more positive experiences a dog has navigating those challenges, the more capable they become in everyday life.

A brilliant day with the pack and plenty for the dogs to take away from it.

Banner’s first loose lead walking session with us.

Like most dogs, he’s worked out that pulling gets him where he wants to go. Today was all about slowing things down, switching his brain on and showing him that walking with his handler is a much better deal.

A great first session for this lad. Just keeping things clear, fair and consistent while building habits that last. Looking forward to seeing his progress. 💪🐾

You can hardly see little Paris hiding amongst these big dogs 😂

Yesterday’s daycare crew.

Some of these dogs came to us with reactivity, some struggled with hyperactivity, and some simply lacked the manners needed to exist calmly around other dogs.

Now look at them.

Calmness isn’t luck. It isn’t something dogs are born with. It’s a skill that can be developed through structure, guidance and consistency.

This isn’t your average daycare.

Our trainer-led daycare is designed to build better habits, better decision-making and calmer dogs, both here and at home.

YOUR DOG’S BARKING ISN’T THE PROBLEM.

Barking is a symptom.

Some dogs bark because they’re frustrated. Some bark because they’re anxious. Some bark because they’re defending their home, seeking attention, or simply because they’ve learned that barking works.

The mistake many owners make is focusing only on stopping the noise.

Anyone can interrupt a dog barking for a moment. The real question is: why is the dog barking in the first place?

When you identify the reason behind the behaviour, you can start creating lasting change instead of just temporarily suppressing the symptom.

Good training isn’t just about stopping unwanted behaviours. It’s about understanding them.

K9 Ricks Daycare is officially OPEN.

Our fully licensed, trainer-led daycare isn’t designed around dogs spending the day running around with no structure. Every dog that joins our pack will be guided through a balanced day built around training, routine and controlled socialisation.

Throughout the day we work on:

• Obedience
• Calmness around dogs and people
• Engagement and focus
• Real-world manners
• Confidence building
• Structured interactions

The goal isn’t to send your dog home exhausted from chaos. The goal is to send them home fulfilled, mentally stimulated and continuing to build better habits.

Places are now available and bookings are open.

Visit K9Ricks.com or send us a message to secure your place.
