Apparently there was an eclipse today… we had more important things going on at K9 Ricks 😂

Buddy turned 2!

A full rendition of Happy Birthday followed by a steak & sprat cake, demolished at record speed 😂

Training, daycare, boarding… and apparently birthday parties now too.

Buddy and Marley popped in to spend the day with us before their upcoming holiday stay.

We always recommend a daycare visit before boarding where possible. It gives dogs the chance to get to know the team, settle into the environment and become familiar with the pack before their owners head away.

Keeping everything calm, structured and at the dog’s own pace helps build confidence and makes their boarding stay feel much more familiar.

We’d say they’re settling in pretty well already.

Roscoe bit Ricky during his assessment. 3 daycare days later, this is where we’re at.

On day one, he was showing his teeth to warn us to keep our distance. By day 3, that had been replaced with something much more important… trust.

Now he’s confidently choosing to stay close and allowing us to stroke him.

Progress isn’t about forcing a dog to accept us. It’s about earning their trust through calm, consistent leadership.

3 days. A great start, and we’re looking forward to seeing Roscoe’s journey continue.

Another great pack walk this morning.

We started a little earlier than usual to make the most of the cooler temperatures, choosing a route with plenty of shade to keep the dogs comfortable throughout the walk.

A relaxed stroll around Pooley Country Park followed by a well earned stop .pooley made for a great morning with a great group of people and dogs.

A huge thank you to one of our wonderful clients, , for capturing today’s walk and putting this reel together for us. 📸

And a very happy 1st birthday to Lokie and Ozzy, who celebrated their special day with us on the walk!

Meet some of the ‘wiser’ members of our pack 😂

Yesterday we had the pleasure of having a bunch of our older pack members all together.

These grumpy oldens had a thing or 2 to teach the young’uns 😂

Yesterday Charlie and Willow’s owners got chatting at drop-off and discovered their dogs are actually brother and sister from the same litter!

Safe to say they had a great day together.

Yesterday was a special one.

Not only did we have the privilege of being part of a wonderful wedding, but we also got to celebrate just how far Sully has come over the past few months.

Through 1:1 training sessions, pack walks, and a lot of hard work from his owners, we’ve watched Sully make huge progress.

This wedding was another milestone. It was Sully’s first day in daycare, his first overnight stay with us, and another opportunity for him to continue building confidence and making good decisions.

Progress isn’t always perfect, and it isn’t always linear, but moments like these are a reminder of how far consistency, patience, and commitment can take a dog.

A huge congratulations to the happy couple, and thank you for trusting us to be a small part of your journey.

We wish you both a lifetime of happiness together, and we’re excited to see what Sully achieves next.

Buddy’s bowl today.

Not everything in his bowl is meat. We like to add a few extras too.

Organic h**p seeds are one of Buddy’s regular additions, providing healthy fats, fibre and a range of naturally occurring nutrients. His eggshells don’t go to waste either they’re crushed up and added back into his food as a natural source of calcium.

They’re only small additions, but it’s the little things that help make up Buddy’s varied diet.

A simple mistake a lot of dog owners make is treating feeding guides as rules.

They’re not.

They’re starting points.

The feeding guide on the side of a bag doesn’t know:

• Your dog’s metabolism
• Activity levels
• Age
• Breed
• Body condition
• Health status

Two dogs can weigh exactly the same and require completely different amounts of food.

The number on the chart isn’t what matters most.

The dog in front of you does.

Learn to assess body condition, energy levels, muscle tone and overall health rather than blindly following a chart.

Buddy’s meals are adjusted based on the dog, not the packaging.

Food for thought.
