Welcome to the rescue, little Buffy!
Yesterday, this tiny little girl was brought into The Chobham Vet collapsed and fighting for her life. Her body temperature was so low that it wasn't even registering on the thermometer.
Thankfully, with lots of warming up, fluids, glucose and a little feed, Buffy slowly started to perk up. The vets certainly saved this little one and she was found just in time.
Fortunately, we have a lovely mummy cat called Ivy, who has kittens of a similar age, so we decided to see if she would accept one more little baby into her family.
We're delighted to say that mummy Ivy has happily adopted Buffy as one of her own!
This really is the best possible outcome for Buffy. Young kittens do so much better when they have a mum to care for them and other kittens to grow up alongside. They learn so much from their mum and siblings, from social skills to normal kitten behaviour, and having that comfort and companionship is incredibly important.
After such a frightening start, little Buffy now has a loving mummy, some new brothers and sisters, and the very best chance of growing into a happy, healthy kitten.
Before arriving at the vets, Buffy had been given cow's milk. Unfortunately, cow's milk is not suitable for kittens, as they struggle to digest the lactose and it can cause diarrhoea and dehydration, which can be particularly dangerous in such tiny babies. If you ever find a kitten that needs feeding, it's important to use a specialist kitten milk replacer rather than cow's milk.
