Polite reminder when trainers and walkers are out walking.

Yes I get it you don’t know a dog could be reactive so always treat it like it could be when being near an unknown dog. The amount of times people come at me when I’m doing my job is honestly astounding.

There are many hints when someone is walking a reactive dog such as:

Changing direction when they see you
Creating distance away from you
Encouraging the dog verbally
Moving faster away from you
Checking around the field or street for other dogs

People and professionals walking reactive dogs are extremely vigilant and constantly checking around themselves.

People approach me quite often while I’m working bringing their dogs over and I may come across as rude and abrupt but if i don’t advocate for the dog instantly, he / she may react and it causes massive stress for them. I’m not in your way I’m actually keeping away from you and I have to shout over to tell you not to approach. The dog I’m walking deserves a safe and peaceful walk just like yours does.

Please don’t approach strange dogs and assume all are friendly and I’m not being rude but when I shout over and move away I’m doing my job!

Happy to chat any other time but please respect me and my clients dogs when I’m working with them.
