Abbey Dog Training Reward-based dog training and behaviour services There are classes for puppies and older dogs new to training, intermediate and advanced.

Abbey Dog Training provides training classes for dogs and puppies in Swindon, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. We incorporate obedience, a little bit of fun agility (jumps and tunnel), and some trick training into all of our classes. We also offer puppy home start visits, home visits for training older dogs, and home visits for behaviour problems including aggression and separation distress.

3 of our beautiful graduates from Sunday and some kind words from an owner. These 3 pups have grown and learnt so much over the past 4 weeks of Puppy Foundations and will continue to learn more as they start Puppy Super Stars next week! A

Freddie came to work for the first time, was fascinated by the other pups, did a lovely boomerang (go around a cone) demo, waited calmly while I led the lesson..then had some fun!

A little recording of training with Freddie, now 10 weeks old. The first two weeks of home life haven't included much training at all, our focus has very much been on creating a feeling of safety and love. This is 100% our priority, training comes much easier if they are happy and confident. Today we tried a 'boop!' - give it a go!

Learning 'drop'! 🐾

When I want Freddie to release a toy or anything else he is holding, I replace it with something better.

This helps stop resource guarding before it starts.

Every time I say 'drop', I immediately put a treat on the floor (here, it is just his usual food).

He cannot hold the toy and eat the treat at the same time, so the food wins!

It is also important to go right back to the game afterward. That way, 'drop' does not mean the fun is over.

Please excuse the messy video and my slippers! A new tripod is on the way, and my slippers prove that training does not need to be planned or scheduled.

Training happens in real life! 🐶✨

Learning to maintain a sit while I move. I don’t use a wait or stay with my pups, I give the sit cue and they learn to keep that position until a 'break' cue is given. Small, slow advances that let him succeed each time! Not too shabby for 8 weeks old!

Freddie had a visit to the vet, all in tip top condition and he is considering a future in medicine! Regular vet trips can really help pups overcome any anxiety (or prevent them getting anxious to start with!) There are lots of other animals, people, smells and noises that will be unfamiliar so a quick visit to get weighed and checked over when there is no pain or injury can build positive associations..home now for a snooze!
