Abbey Dog Training Reward-based dog training and behaviour services There are classes for puppies and older dogs new to training, intermediate and advanced.

Abbey Dog Training provides training classes for dogs and puppies in Swindon, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. We incorporate obedience, a little bit of fun agility (jumps and tunnel), and some trick training into all of our classes. We also offer puppy home start visits, home visits for training older dogs, and home visits for behaviour problems including aggression and separation distress.

Caught some nice play between my two dogs the other evening.
Play can look a bit chaotic, but there are clues to when it is being enjoyed by both dogs.
Look for turn taking (here it is lying down), short breaks (Freddie does a nice shake off too), mirroring each other's positions and not having out of control levels of excitementthey were still able to recall nicely.
These play sessions are kept short too so they dont get out of hand!

Just a bit of fun with this one! I get asked what should I say when training new behaviours, 'sit, down, stand' etc..truth is is doesnt matter what you say, just that they know what it means! This was my gorgeous Bertie 3 years ago

This is what training looks like today..looks remarkably like I went out for a coffee and cake! ☕️ 🥮

For Freddie it was about seeing new things and people and learning to settle by me without constant interaction..a skill often overlooked in training but expected of our dogs.

The more he gets to experience in small bursts and at a level that he can cope with, the more resilience and impulse control he will have.

How could I say no to these faces?! 🥹🐾

Luckily, my training methods mean I don’t have to! ❤️

My approach is based on positive cues and rewarding the behaviour I want to see, rather than telling dogs off for what we perceive as “bad” behaviour.

Take jumping up, for example. You could say “no” or “off”, which focuses on stopping the unwanted behaviour. Or, you could ask for a sit, giving your pup a clear, positive replacement behaviour instead.

One focuses on the negative. The other teaches them what to do.

The result? A happy owner, a happy pup, and a dog who clearly understands what’s being asked of them. 🐶✨

That’s what positive training is all about! 💕

Working on 'drop' with Freddie. Everything we ask should come with a good reason to comply...drop the toy = get a treat..not just lose the fun toy!

Toy play is important for pup development and bonding but can also give chances to practice some good skills.

If he can drop a toy, he can drop a sock or any other fun item pups seem to find!
