They often say that the dog picks you, not the other way around.
Bramble has been with us now nearly eight weeks, and I started to notice things about her that I wasn't entirely happy about.
First, she had a watering eye, and when I had a look, I noticed there was a little speck of something on the bottom lash line. I went and got it checked at the vets, and sure enough, Bramble has a condition known as distichiasis in both of her eyes. What this basically means is that she has eyelashes growing from the oil-producing meibomian glands on the inner edge of her eyelid. This will be causing her some irritation and therefore we’ve opted to have a surgical procedure to have them removed.
I’ve also been using the skills taught to me during my Dynamic Dog course to document observations about the way she walks, runs and does different daily activities such as how she lays, goes to the toilet, jumps on and off of furniture etc as I’ve been suspicious about her back end. As a result, I was able to speak to the vets and she’ll be having x-rays whilst under anaesthetic.
It took almost 8 years before we found out that Max had bi-lateral hip dysplasia and an issue with his spine - and it was at that point I promised myself I would never miss something like that again.
I’m not the best stylist out there for sure, but one thing I can say proudly is I’m one of the best groomers for spotting when something else might be going. And I will never stop banging on about the link between pain and behaviour.
Thanks to what I learnt from Max and Monty, I’ve been able to recognise things in Bramble early and get her the right support ❤️ without them, I’m not sure I’d have been so quick. They say you never fail in life, but instead everything is an opportunity to learn from.
The surgery is supposed to be very straight forward so fingers crossed Bramble is in and out quickly and then back home where she belongs. ❤️
