"Shaving or Clipping a dog's coat in the summer will keep them cooler." True or False

So which breed? What is the context?

At the moment the debate on line is "does a double coat keep a dog cool" - it is an insulator - meant to keep warmth in or can it act as a buffer?? - in most of the posts i see no evidence is presented or facts of the situation either way, just opinions and so from there people jump straight to you therefore should clip or not clip - and that is what the debate is around (or should i say - people pick a side). With no other context...

I wanted this to be a regular post to get people to think about this topic and wanted to keep it short but with the amount of "hit and run" advice and people putting up links of opinions rather than facts I wanted to do a post to get you thinking about context and to make an informed decision for your dog...

FOR CONTEXT is anyone asking -

" how much do these dogs spend outside - even in the shade" could Shaving or clipping a dog's coat actually make them more susceptible to sunburn and overheating?

" can the dogs cope with being clipped " could spending excess time on a grooming table or standing still could make the dog uncomfortable and heart rate to go up ?

"has the dog suffered or nearly suffered from heat stroke before"?

Also discuss the alternatives and has regular brushing and grooming too help remove excess hair and kept your dog more comfortable int he past?.

Look at using cooling mats, walking at cooler times.

Clipping is an option for some double coated dogs - but then how much do you clip?

Social media is a breeding ground for them vs us - please focus on the dog in front of you and what do they need and do your research for your dog. Look at articles and books of the anatomy, function and structure of your dogs skin, coat and body. If you ask a professional - ask their sources - have they studied dermatology and the dogs anatomy and functions???

Even talking to experts I trust they do not fully know the answer to this question - so instead of us beating each other up over clip or not clip - lets do what we can for these dogs to keep them cool in hot temperatures

"All dogs need the same amount of exercise.???????"

Different breeds, different ages and different individual dogs have varying exercise needs. Factors such as age, health, and breed should be considered when determining the appropriate amount of exercise for a specific dog. But aswell as the AMOUNT ...consider the type. Variety is the spice of life and beign sure your dog is getting the right TYPE of exercise is important. Such as: walking, walking over bumpy ground, low impact play, high impact play, running ...... what do you feel would be healthy for your dog

"MY DOG KNOWS WHEN HE HAS DONE WRONG." Dogs may show appeasing behaviors such as turning their head and showing whites of eyes, licking lips or laying down and ears back, when they've done something that upsets their owners, but this is not the same as guilt or knowing they have done wrong. They only know their owners are upset and are responding to their owner's body language and tone of voice.
