Confidence in practice often arrives gradually. Several years in a role, a lot of learning along the way, and eventually things begin to feel more certain.

The Vet Graduate Academy brings that development forward. Over twelve months and more than 140 hours of CPD, graduates build clinical consultation skills alongside the business and interpersonal strengths that help them thrive in practice.

What makes it work so well is the support that sits alongside it. As Practice Leader, you'll appoint a mentor from your own team, so your graduate has someone familiar walking beside them throughout the year. We stay in regular contact with your mentor, so you always know how things are progressing.

Rebecca is heading home from the 51st WSAVA - World Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress, after a few days of learning, catching up with old friends and making plenty of new ones.

Reflecting on the week, she said:

"So inspiring to meet so many from across the world trying to improve animal welfare globally. I attended a particularly insightful session on conflict management. Met old friends and made new ones! Even saw a little of Warsaw with a relaxing boat trip at the end of Congress with a few of my new friends!"

A good reminder that while practice life looks different around the world, the ambitions we share have a great deal in common. And that the conversations outside the lecture theatre are often just as valuable as those within it.

It's been a month since The Independent Vet Conference. We'd love to hear what's taking shape in your practice.

The ideas that come out of Conference often keep developing long after everyone heads home.

Sometimes it's something practical, a change to how a process works or a new approach you've been meaning to try. Sometimes it's a shift in thinking, a different way of looking at a challenge you've been carrying for a while.

A real privilege for our team this week.

On Monday, Vicky and Rebecca joined the judging panel for the Petplan UK Veterinary Awards 2026, helping to narrow down an extraordinary 20,736 nominations across the five categories.

Reading about the exceptional care, professionalism and dedication across our profession was genuinely inspiring (and made the decisions very difficult!).

Finalists will be announced in October, with winners revealed at the awards ceremony on 19th November.
