A gentle reminder that doing Scentwork in even moderately elevated temps is asking your dog to choose between cooling and sniffing. Instead, the Dog Nose online scentwork crew are working on a visual discrimination challenge at the moment which The Feral has also been very much enjoying. To keep as close a possible to their familiar routine we are walking at 5am, then doing gentle conditioning and confidence exercises when they become active in the afternoon, then a final walk sometime after 10pm. Although it sucks to have to cancel so many classes and as a self employed person it is a financial blow , it really is the only safe option.

My sweet Poppet left this world yesterday morning. In time I will write up a little about my thoughts on the particular type of grief that comes with saying goodbye to an old dog but for now everything is too raw to be touched. I will be taking a week off while I process the loss of my constant companion of 14 years. I’ll contact everyone who is booked for lessons for this coming week to reschedule.
I have hundreds of videos of her over the years but I love this one just because it shows her utter joy at searching 💔

If you want to get a bit more Scentwork value from even a small garden, engineering bricks are a very easy thing to incorporate. All these bricks and pallets came free from our local free to recycle Facebook group. I can train for height, detail, enclosed, hard to reach, buried, and it’s easy to move them around to change the complexity for variety and if I’m teaching something specific ☺️
