Hi Everyone!

Just a quick heads-up that The Water Garden will be closed all day this Sunday.

Back in July, for my birthday, I was lucky enough to get a ticket to watch an NFL game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium! 🏈

So, this Sunday, I'll be swapping pond plants for American football as the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Normal opening hours will resume next week. Thanks for your understanding!

Hi everyone!
I've started importing tropical plants from Thailand again, and we've got a lovely mix in!
There's a great selection of background, midground and foreground species, along with a few splashes of colour to brighten things up.
I've also managed to get hold of some Anubias and Java fern growing on wood, plus a few coconuts with moss already established on them!
Plenty of lovely new additions for your tropical aquariums, so pop in and have a look.

All my bunched plants are £3.50 each with the offer of buy 5 get 1 free

Hi Everyone.
Here's my video of new tropical fish that came in this week. A little shrimpy, little snaily, with a few oddballs thrown into the mix for good measure.

Enjoy

Hi everyone 👋

Just because it’s getting a little windy and chilly, that doesn’t mean the pond planting season is over! 🌿
We still have plenty of native and non native water lilies, marginal plants and oxygenating plants looking great and ready to go.
So if you’ve got a gap on a planting shelf, it’s not too late to fill it!

Pop in and have a look — there’s still plenty of life left in the pond yet! 😊

Hi everyone
I know it's been a while, but we're finally back with a new video!
This time we're taking a look at our new delivery of African Cichlids.

We've got some really nice fish in, with plenty of colour and a good selection of different species to choose from.
So if African Cichlids are your thing, have a look at the video and see what we've got in! There might just be something that catches your eye. 😉
As always, if there's anything you're interested in, just give us a shout or pop in and have a look.

Enjoy the video!

Hi everyone!
With this gorgeous hot weather, I know many of us have been spending plenty of time enjoying our ponds. So, I thought I'd take a break from pond maintenance and put together a quick video showcasing today's new tropical fish delivery!

It's mostly our popular everyday favourites, but there's a great selection across the board with plenty to choose from.

Have a look at the video and let me know which ones catch your eye!

Not another one...
I've just heard the very sad news that the Goldfish Bowl in Oxford is due to close its doors.

I first visited the Bowl when I was just 14 years old, and I can still remember being completely blown away by the incredible selection of fish. It was one of those shops that left a lasting impression and set an incredibly high standard for me to aspire to in this industry.

It's always sad to see another long-established aquatic shop disappear. These places are more than just shops—they're where many of us first discovered our passion for fishkeeping and pond keeping.

Wishing everyone at the Goldfish Bowl all the very best for the future, and thank you for the inspiration all those years ago.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

After nearly 70 years of trading, it is with great sadness that I announce that The Goldfish Bowl will cease trading by the 31st July 2026.

This decision has not been taken lightly, and I am aware that The Goldfish Bowl has played a central role for many in their fishkeeping journey.

Much more than that, we have always been very much part of the Oxford landscape and the very vibrant East Oxford Community.
We have received numerous recognitions - both as a destination worth a visit and recognised in the Parliamentary Review as an independent business showcasing entrepreneurship and outstanding customer service. The first pet shop to receive this recognition.

Numerous schools and other educational establishments have come to us for help and inspiration for their creative projects or to simply learn more about rivers and ocean life.

It has been a remarkable journey for me and my dedicated team past and present and, of course, all of you who have visited and supported us over the years.

I cannot thank everyone enough for coming by with your families and friends, sharing your happy stories and your questions that keep challenging us to be the best in our field.

Sadly, the implementations of the current transport schemes by Oxford Council over the past four years has proved a considerable business challenge for us and customers visiting us. This and the increase in running costs make it very difficult for a small business such as us to adapt and remain viable. As well as that I am well over my retirement age and really need to hang up my net!

For now, we are still here to support your hobby with free water tests and advice. There are also a great number of offers available so please do pop in and have a chat and grab yourselves a bargain.

Whether you have recently found us or have known us for years, we’d love to see you one more time.

Barry and the team

Hi Everyone.
I thought I would show you a small selection of our water lilies that are in flower right now. We do various shades of colours in White, Red, Yellow and Pink. All of which are lapping up the heat from the sun.
Don't forget all our lilies are sold potted so all you'll need to do is top them off with gravel and place them in your pond.... it's as easy as that.
If you're not sure what lily to go for come and have a chat with me and I can advise you which one to go for

I just had to post this!!! Catherine our head gardener, took a quick video of our very first Hummingbird Hawk Moth. I'll be honest, I've never seen one here at the water garden. Amazing 😍
