Canine Gems is a behaviour and training consultancy based in and around the Swansea area, also covering Neath, Port Talbot and Llanelli. We provide blocks of training classes (6 and 8 weeks), one to one training sessions and behavioural consultations tailored to meet the specific needs of you and your pet. Training classes include:
- Puppy Primary (From 10 weeks)
- Puppy Progress (After puppy prim

- Canine College (Adult training classes)
- Agility Academy (Beginner and Intermediate fun agility classes). I hold a Masters degree in Clinical Animal Behaviour and am working towards becoming a Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist.

🐾How do I stop my dog pulling me into the road?🐾

Roadside manners are just as important as any other aspect of training. Teaching your dog to remain calm and under control near roads is essential for both their safety and yours.

During our classes, we focus on everyday life skills, including mock roadside training. Dogs learn to sit and wait calmly before crossing a road, allowing them to practise this behaviour in a safe environment before applying it on real walks.

With consistent practice and reinforcement, your dog will begin to offer this behaviour more reliably, helping to reduce pulling and encouraging them to focus on you in potentially hazardous situations.

Building good roadside manners not only makes walks more enjoyable but also helps keep both you and your dog safe, especially around busy roads.

Fantastic week 5 in Puppy School yesterday.......I cant believe there's only 1 week left!!!!

Brilliant work this week on leave training which we have progressed to leaving items our puppies might like to take around the house, roadside manners and loose lead walking. We also introduced going to a place on command which will be really useful for taking your puppy's to beer gardens and cafes in the summer months!!!

Saturdays second session.....now called Saturday school 🤣🤣 there was a bit of a struggle in this session this week.....not sure if we're heading to a full moon or if all the rain that was forecast had everyone a bit giddy 🤣🙈

During the session we used cones to practice loose lead walking, as well as independent loose lead walking work, we progressed leave training to include some items from home, not just food, and we also continued practising recalls with the emphasis on coming back on the first call.

Fantastic sessions for yesterday's puppy school and Saturday morning group.

The weather forecast wasnt the best but we were very lucky and it stayed dry for both sessions 🙌🙌

We were on week 3 of Puppy School with the puppies working very well on loose lead walking, leave work, focus cues and recall training. Very pleased with how well they have settled into classes and are listening and responding to their owners.

Apologies for being so poor at posting on social media at the moment!!! Im either too busy to take photos......or I just completely forget to post them!!!

I have had some wonderful 121s with some fabulous puppy's lately, plus the odd visit to see puppy's which have attended puppy school with me.

Levels of recalls are coming along nicely, woth dogs even coming away from each other, loose lead walking is slowly improving around distractions, and we've also been working on manners, stays, focus work and leave exercises.

Well done everyone that has attended a session or 121 with me recently, apologies if I dont have a picture of your little one 🙈🙈
