Working primarily with larger breeds and dogs with complex behavioral needs, I’ve learned that standard "meet-and-greets" often set nervous or high-energy dogs up to fail before they’ve even set foot inside the house.

​Over the years, refining a few key low-arousal greeting protocols and structured trial night routines has completely transformed how quickly sensitive dogs settle in my care.

​I’m thinking of putting together some quick, practical tips/guides for fellow boarders on topics like:

​The First 15 Minutes: How to structure greetings to keep nervous or reactive dogs below threshold.

​Trial Night Tactics: Setting boundaries early so anxious dogs feel secure enough to settle sleep and eat.

​Large Breed Dynamics: Managing space, arousal levels, and physical safety in a home environment.

​Owner Decompression: Helping anxious owners transfer calm energy during drop-off.

​Would anyone boarders find a video breakdown on any of these useful? Or if there’s a specific behavior issue you constantly run into during initial drop-offs/trials ect?

Following a few chats this week—here’s a friendly heads-up ❤️

​Thinking of using an unlicensed dog boarder to save money or for convenience? Booking outside of council rules means your dog is walking into a completely unregulated setup with some real risks:

​🚨 Zero Safety Standards: No council checks mean no guarantee of secure fencing, fire safety, or safe living conditions.

🏛️ Risk of Council Seizure: If the council cracks down on an illegal setup while you're away on holiday, your dog could be seized on the spot and popped straight into council holding kennels.

🦠 Nasty Health Hazards: Without mandatory vaccine checks or isolation rules, unvaccinated dogs get mixed together, massively upping the risk of infection.

💸 Zero Insurance Cover: Standard pet insurance (and any "insurance" an unlicensed boarder claims to have) won't cover commercial boarding. If something goes wrong, you're left footing the eye-watering vet bill.

🦮 Overcrowding & Chaos: Unlicensed boarders often take on way too many dogs just to rake in extra cash, leading to high stress, scraps, and zero proper supervision.

🔍 Zero Accountability: No background checks mean you're handing your dog over to a complete unknown, with no official body to turn to if things go pear-shaped.

❤️ Intention - If someone genuinely cares about dogs and is boarding because of a genuine care, they will go through the hassle and jump the hoops to do it legally.

​Always ask to see an official Council Animal Boarding Licence before you book. Even the loveliest hobby boarders or app boarders such as Rover are putting your dog at risk if they aren't legal! 🫶🐾
