My horse could loose his eye :frowning: i am so very upset. he has 72 hours to improve or ive got to pay for his eye to be removed. so we had to call the emergency vet out today - typical its on bank holiday monday & he had to have painkillers, anti inflammatories, antibiotics, steroids, dye in the eye & sedation & now we have to have no more than a 12 hour gap between medication for a minimum of 72 hours, if there is improvement this could go on for up to 28 days or maybe even more, & if no improvement by wednesday lunch time then we will have to pay for him to have his eye removed :frowning: me and the kids have been there every day since the day he was born, and im very much into natural horsemanship and i had let him be unhandled since birth, not halter broken everything kept naturally, on a track system, never stabled. self weaned from his mum (a rescued/loan 29 year old mare in to loose weight who gave birth to my surprise when i found him.) today i put a halter on him first attempt, no dancing around, no work on introducing him to it he just said ok mum i can do that. he was actually so calm the vet didn't understand and afterwards admitted she gave more than she would have done not realising he is nothing like ur normal intact 2 year old c**t! which made us have a drunk 1/2 tonne animal trying to fall on top of you which meant my back is ruined, because we also had to set up an indoor area in their shelter which hadn't been used and had overgrown with brambles and dusty mud that had to be got rid of to help him to heal :frowning: so bending over doing that fighting him to keep him upright, and when the sedation wore off he then got on his new bed and fell asleep, so i got to have a cuddle with him which was a first. I am extremely lucky that i am good at saving up, only issue is i saved up for his gelding and had to use it to pay for smokey to be pts and cremated privately and then just as id saved it again for autumn (gelding only recommended spring and autumn) then this happens.
The day started off great with a family trip out for breakfast, family day out at the yard ending up costing a bomb, and now i have 2 lots of meds to give a uniform shop to return and exchange a delivery that arrived in the wrong side for my 11yr olds first day at secondary on wednesday, and i still needed to get a trip to buy their school bags and stationary. 2020 has been really sh*tty, lost our rescue mare boss of the herd due to grass sickness luckily we arrived as it started and she was out of pain and off the yard within an hour with no warning and a huge bill, then we had about £20k stolen, every bit of tack from bridles and saddles, to harnesses and carts ( my eldest who has cerebral palsy cant ride so relys on a cart, which spoilt all the girls summer holiday plans :frowning: we had to find forever homes for 2 of the herd, although i rescued them to be rehomed to a forever home i didnt have a choice and they were more ready to go than i was to let them go. 2 years ago i used to look after 11 horses a day, 2 were stolen, 2 went back to owner (they were on loan) 1 was born that now may loose their eye 1 died and the whole yard broken into etc. can we just fast forward to when 2021 is better please?
