All About Second Chance Animal Rescue:

Hi my name is John, I am the founder member of Second Chance Animal Rescue in Crockenhill, or SCAR as it’s become known as by our volunteers & supporters. I have been caring and rescuing animals on a small scale for as long as I can remember, first at home with my parents, then from my own garden until finally in 2011 I was lucky enough to find a small plot

of land in Crockenhill. Wherever possible we do try and find a new forever home for the animals but if that is not possible then they are allowed to live out their life at the rescue. Our ethos “is live and let live”, these animals have suffered prior to reaching SCAR, so should be allowed to have a happy life enjoying freedom and enrichment that SCAR has to offer. SCAR is registered with the Charity Commission. We are always grateful of any support anyone can provide the rescue with. We always need sheds, building materials, animal bedding, and feed. If you think that you could possibly help in any way please get in touch either by telephone or email. Anyone wishing to come and see what we are doing and meet the animals is more than welcome, but this is by prior arrangement only. We are taking some animals along to the show including our best boy Paddy who thinks he is the star of the show !
Tomorrow we have a fantastic tombola at a £1 a go plus we have lots of various animal merchandise for sale .
Also our calendar will be available to purchase at £8.99 with all our special guests in it .

We have been so lucky this year and have managed to rehome lots of different species of animals and birds . It gives us a purpose in doing what we do when we either release the wildlife or find loving new homes for our animals . All our volunteers, work experience and Duke of Edinburgh people work so hard making sure the animals in their care are fed, watered , cleaned out and in some cases played with and cuddled . It is certainly an ongoing job with more kittens , more cats , rabbits the list just goes on ! Thank you to both our volunteers for giving up their time and more importantly you all for supporting us . We are very grateful xx

Our little pocket rocket Paddy who in these photos has a real look of a superstar will be making an appearance at the Heavy Horse Show in Shoreham on Sunday . We will be there all day alongside our rabbits , ferrets and tortoises . We have a fabulous tombola and some animal items for sale . If you get chance please pop in to see us and have a chat we would love to see you all.
The show is open 10.00 till 5pm and hopefully the sun will be shining on us . X

Our lovely rotund piggies have really enjoyed today's rain which has filled up their wallow beautifully . Pigs love to be covered in mud which helps to protect them and will happily just "wallow " They get on mostly very well with the occasional dust up and like most family soon make up . They might not be everyone's favorite not as cuddly or as handsome as some of our animals we feature often but the volunteers who are part of the livestock team adore them and have names and favorites amongst them all !

We are now closing the waiting list temporarily and if you have emailed in we will get back to you when you reach the top of the list . Our next cat looking for a new home is Luna. She recently had her kittens which have now been rehomed so, she is ready for a new start. Only 18 months old she requires a quiet home with no young children other cats or dogs. She is very affectionate and loves a gentle cuddle and will give nose boops. Rain at last !! Hopefully we won't get flooded out as the ground is so hard . As some of you are aware we have a flock of geese that during the day will split up into smaller groups but they come back together at night . The goose in the photo is Geoffrey who although it's a boys name is actually a girl! She will often find herself a human to spend the day with and will enjoy cuddles and spends her time as close as possible to them . It's so funny as she will happily waddle about just being as close as possible then will waddle off to join the flock again . Certainly a goose with a love for humans .x

Guess what's coming soon!!! 🎄

Yes, it won't be long until we are getting over our summer hols and looking forward to Christmas. We will be releasing all the tickets and details soon but for now, keep the dates in mind and help to support us through the winter months. Tickets will be available for both children and dogs, and we will look forward to seeing both regular and new friends. Save the dates 28th/29th Nov, 5th/6th Dec and 12th/13th Dec.

We may not be posh but, we love to see you all and look forward to a good chat x

This year after a couple of years break we are going back to selling a calendar as we keep getting asked for one again . We are very excited to be offering this again and hope you will love it too. All our favorites are in it of course Tyson, Joey, Paddy, Khan, Dobby and several others . We will be selling them at the Heavy Horse Show and of course our Christmas events . We will give you more details on how much and how to order as soon as they have arrived . X
