🐾 Vet Appreciation Week at Swaffham Vets 🐾

❤️This Vet Appreciation Week, we’d like to take a moment to celebrate and thank our incredible team of veterinary surgeons here at Swaffham Vets. Their dedication, expertise, and compassion make a difference to the lives of pets and their families every single day.

🏅Our veterinary team brings together an impressive breadth of knowledge and qualifications, including Surgical Certificates, Advanced Veterinary Practice qualifications, an Ophthalmology Certificate and a small animal medicine Certificate. Which is just amazing! We are also proud to have vets with particular interests in orthopaedics, exotics, small animal medicine and cardiology.

📚We’re especially excited to support two of our vets who are currently undertaking a Dermatology Certificate and an Exotic Certificate, further expanding the specialist knowledge available to our patients.

🩺Whether they’re performing complex surgeries, diagnosing challenging cases, caring for exotic pets, or providing routine healthcare and advice, our vets are committed to delivering the highest standard of care with kindness and professionalism.

Sweet 16-year-old Huey enjoyed a well-earned lick of Lik-e-Lix after being such a superstar for his blood tests during his Senior Cat Clinic visit. Don’t be fooled by his expression, he loved his treat! 🐾💙

🐱Our Senior Cat Clinics are designed to help detect health issues early, often before our feline friends show any obvious signs of illness. As cats age, they become experts at hiding when something isn’t quite right.

✔️During Huey’s visit, we thankfully discovered his bloods were normal, however he did have high blood pressure – something that may not have been detected without attending our Senior Cat Clinic. This high reading will be reassesed in two weeks time to monitor. Early detection allows us to start treatment sooner and help keep our senior patients feeling their best for longer.

Well done, Huey – and enjoy that tasty treat! 🐱✨

🩷Erin is our deserving winner this month, we hope everyone shows her as much love as possible. We are so impressed with how brave she has been so far and how dedicated and amazing her owners have been.

May is such a fighter and has had the toughest ride, but we are so pleased to see she is doing so well since her operation❤️

❤️Fundraiser for the sweetest girl❤️

May is a young lurcher who was found abandoned in a field and brought to Swaffham Vets, its believed she had been there for at least a day. She was found in an extremely poor condition, and it was truly distressing to see.

May presented with lameness in her right forelimb and, following further investigation at the vets, they confirmed fractures to both her radius and ulna, as shown in the first X-ray. It was heartbreaking to witness such severe injuries in such a sweet and gentle-natured girl.

We could not bear to see her continue to suffer or consider euthanasia when there was still a possibility of treatment and a chance for her to enjoy a good quality of life. Following discussions with the wonderful team at Swaffham Vets, they kindly agreed to perform the surgery at cost price to give May the very best chance.

Ben, the veterinary surgeon at Swaffham Vets, carefully explained the risks, recovery process, and the options available, including surgical repair versus amputation. During surgery, an incision was made to the radius, bone fragments were removed, and the fracture was reduced and stabilised using pins and screws.

May is now on the long road to recovery, and we remain hopeful for a positive outcome for this brave little girl. She has already shown incredible resilience and continues to receive the care, comfort, and support she deserves.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in helping May, especially the team at Swaffham Vets, for giving her the opportunity of a brighter future.

As a sanctuary, we rely entirely on the kindness and generosity of the public to continue helping animals like May. Her lower priced surgery and ongoing care has still come at a significant cost, and we would be incredibly grateful for any donations, no matter how small, to help towards her treatment and recovery. Every contribution will make a real difference and help us continue providing life-saving care to animals in need. Thank you for your continued support and compassion.

Just a reminder that we are closed today, but back open tomorrow!

🥵Please note that today is going to be the hottest day of bank holiday, please keep your pets cool.

💦Always ensure fresh water and shade are available, avoid walks during the hottest parts of the day, and never leave pets in parked cars, even for a few minutes.

🌡️Watch for signs of heatstroke such as excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse, and contact our out of hours line immediately if you’re concerned.

❤️Keeping pets cool and comfortable can help prevent serious health emergencies.

To everyone who has donated food to Brambles Rescue.
We delivered the first load today.

We will keep collecting and delivering if anyone still wants to donate food.

They have plenty of blankets and bedding at the moment though.
