🐾 Meet Flash – a very special boy with a very special story. πŸ’š

Some patients leave pawprints on our hearts that will stay with us forever, and Flash is most certainly one of them. πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ

Talking about Flash brings a tear to our eyes and a lump to our throats, because this lovely boy has been on quite the journey.

Flash was diagnosed with multicentric lymphoma, a form of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, particularly the lymph nodes throughout the body. It's a diagnosis that no pet owner ever wants to hear, and one that can bring so much uncertainty and heartache.

But through it all, Flash has been nothing short of remarkable. ❀️

With an incredibly dedicated and loving owner by his side, Flash has shown us just how brave and resilient our four-legged friends can be.

And the most wonderful thing about Flash? That tail has never stopped wagging! 🐢

No matter what he's been through, Flash has always greeted us with the happiest face, a wagging tail and so much love. He's genuinely one of the sweetest, loveliest boys you could ever wish to meet, and it's impossible not to smile when you see him.

We're absolutely delighted to share that Flash has made a remarkable recovery, and seeing him doing so well means more to our team than words can express.

His journey is a testament to his resilience, the dedication of his wonderful owner and the care and compassion that goes into supporting our patients through difficult diagnoses.

Flash, you are an absolute superstar, and we couldn't be prouder of you. 🌟

Here's to many more happy days, wagging tails and cuddles, beautiful boy. πŸ’šπŸΎ

🐾 An exciting new chapter for Abi! πŸ’š

Last weekend, our Senior RVN Abi attended BVNA Congress, enjoying a fantastic weekend of learning, networking and professional development!

With a particular passion for anaesthesia, Abi took the opportunity to expand her knowledge through a variety of anaesthesia and critical care lectures, bringing back fresh ideas and inspiration to clinical practice. 🩺

But this year's Congress was particularly special, as Abi begins her journey as an elected member of BVNA Council! πŸŽ‰

This comes at a potentially pivotal moment for the veterinary nursing profession, with important discussions surrounding the protection of the veterinary nurse title, professional recognition and the future development of our profession.

Abi is incredibly proud to join a respected group of veterinary professionals, past and present, who share a passion for championing veterinary nurses, advocating for positive change and creating opportunities for professional growth and progression.

As a Council member, she hopes to help strengthen engagement within the profession, ensure veterinary nurses feel represented and empowered, and contribute to shaping a positive future for veterinary nursing.

We're incredibly proud of Abi for taking this exciting step, not only in her own professional journey, but in helping to support and champion the profession she cares so deeply about. πŸ’š

🐾🩸 Did You Know We Offer PRP Therapy at Bright Side Vets? 🩸🐾

We're always looking for ways to improve the care and treatment options available to our patients, and we're pleased to offer Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy!

But what exactly is PRP therapy, and how can it help your pet? 🐢🐱

πŸ”¬ What is PRP therapy?

PRP is a regenerative treatment that uses your pet's own blood to produce a concentrated solution of platelets, which contain growth factors involved in the body's natural healing and tissue repair processes.

A small blood sample is collected from your pet and processed using specialist equipment to separate and concentrate the platelets. This platelet-rich plasma can then be administered directly to the area requiring treatment.

🦴 What can PRP therapy be used for?

PRP may be considered as part of a treatment plan for certain musculoskeletal conditions, including:

🐾 Osteoarthritis – potentially helping to reduce joint discomfort and improve mobility.

🐾 Tendon and ligament injuries – supporting the body's natural tissue repair processes.

🐾 Joint and soft tissue injuries – as an additional treatment option in selected cases.

πŸ’š What are the benefits?

✨ Uses your pet's own blood, reducing the risk of certain adverse reactions.

✨ A minimally invasive treatment.

✨ May help improve comfort and mobility in suitable patients.

✨ Can complement other treatments, including pain management, physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

Is PRP therapy right for every pet?

Not necessarily! While PRP is a promising area of veterinary regenerative medicine, research is still developing, and results can vary depending on the condition being treated. It isn't a cure for arthritis or a replacement for other essential treatments.

Our veterinary team can assess whether PRP therapy may be a suitable addition to your pet's individual treatment plan.

πŸ“ž Interested in finding out more?

If your pet is struggling with joint discomfort, reduced mobility or a musculoskeletal injury, please get in touch with our friendly team to discuss the treatment options available at Bright Side Vets.

πŸ’™ Investing in Our Reception Team! πŸ’™

Recently, two of our wonderful receptionists, Jess and Becky, attended the British Veterinary Receptionist Association (BVRA) Congress! 🐾

Veterinary receptionists are such an integral part of any veterinary practice. They are often the first friendly face you see when you walk through our doors, the reassuring voice at the end of the phone, and the vital link between our clients, patients and clinical team.

Attending events like BVRA Congress provides fantastic opportunities to develop knowledge, learn new skills, share experiences with fellow veterinary receptionists and bring fresh ideas back to the practice.

At Bright Side Vets, we believe that continued professional development is important for every member of our team, not just our vets and nurses. Supporting our receptionists in their professional growth helps us continue providing the compassionate, knowledgeable and high-quality service our clients and patients deserve. πŸ’š

We're so pleased Jess and Becky had the opportunity to attend and represent Bright Side Vets. We can't wait to hear all about what they've learnt!

πŸ‘ A huge thank you to our incredible reception team for everything they do, every single day!

πŸ”¬πŸΎ Behind the Scenes at Bright Side Vets – Our In-House Laboratory! πŸΎπŸ”¬

When your pet is unwell, every minute can matter. ❀️

At Bright Side Vets, we're proud to have our very own in-house laboratory, allowing our veterinary team to carry out a wide range of diagnostic tests right here at the practice, often providing vital results within minutes!

This is particularly valuable in emergency and critical care situations, where having rapid access to diagnostic information can help us make informed decisions and begin appropriate treatment without unnecessary delays.

🩸 Haematology (Complete Blood Count)

This looks at the different cells within your pet's blood, including red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. It can help us identify anaemia, signs of infection or inflammation, and abnormalities affecting blood clotting.

πŸ§ͺ Biochemistry

This measures various substances and enzymes in the blood, helping us assess how important organs such as the kidneys and liver are functioning. It can also highlight abnormalities in blood glucose, proteins and other important markers of health.

πŸ’§ Comprehensive Urinalysis

There's a surprising amount we can learn from a urine sample! By assessing urine concentration, chemical properties and examining the urine sediment, we can investigate conditions such as urinary tract infections, kidney disease, diabetes and the presence of crystals.

⚑ Electrolyte Testing

Electrolytes, including sodium, potassium and chloride, are essential for normal nerve, muscle and cellular function. Imbalances can occur with dehydration, kidney disease, gastrointestinal illness and other serious conditions. Identifying these abnormalities quickly can be especially important when treating critically ill patients.

πŸ”¬ And so much more!

Our laboratory capabilities support us in investigating a wide variety of conditions, monitoring ongoing illnesses, assessing patients before anaesthesia and evaluating their response to treatment.

πŸ’™ Why does having an in-house laboratory matter?

Because when your pet is poorly, waiting for answers can be incredibly worrying.

Having diagnostic equipment readily available means we can:

🐾 Obtain important results rapidly, often during the same appointment.

🐾 Make timely, evidence-based treatment decisions.

🐾 Monitor hospitalised and critically ill patients as their condition changes.

🐾 Assess organ function and identify potential concerns before procedures.

🐾 Provide continuity of care without always needing to send samples to an external laboratory.

Although some specialist investigations still require external laboratories, having these facilities on-site is an invaluable part of the care we provide.

It's another way we're committed to providing high-quality, compassionate veterinary care when your pets need us most. πŸ’™

🐾🦴 Orthopaedic Surgery Is Just the Beginning – Rehabilitation Matters Too! 🦴🐾

When your pet undergoes orthopaedic surgery, the procedure itself is only one part of their journey back to comfort and mobility.

At Bright Side Vets, we understand that what happens after surgery is just as important as the operation itself. That's why post-operative rehabilitation is built into our orthopaedic surgical packages! πŸ’š

🐢 Why Is Rehabilitation So Important?

Following orthopaedic surgery, pets can experience muscle weakness, stiffness, reduced joint mobility and changes in how they walk and distribute their weight.

Even when surgery has been successful, it takes time for tissues to heal, strength to return and normal movement patterns to develop.

A carefully planned rehabilitation programme can help to:

🐾 Support healing and recovery.

🐾 Maintain and gradually improve joint range of motion.

🐾 Reduce muscle loss and rebuild strength.

🐾 Encourage appropriate weight-bearing and improve mobility.

🐾 Improve balance, coordination and confidence.

🐾 Support a safe, gradual return to normal activities.

πŸ’š What Does Post-Operative Rehabilitation Involve?

Every patient is different, and their rehabilitation needs will depend on the procedure performed, their age, general health and individual progress.

Our team will guide you through the recovery process, which may include:

🩺 Post-operative assessments – monitoring healing, comfort, limb use and recovery progress.

πŸ• Controlled exercise programmes – gradually introducing appropriate activity while protecting healing tissues.

🦴 Mobility and strengthening exercises – helping to restore muscle function, stability and joint movement when appropriate.

πŸ’Š Pain management – ensuring your pet remains as comfortable as possible throughout recovery.

🏑 Home care guidance – helping you understand how to support your pet safely at home, including exercise restrictions, environmental adjustments and rehabilitation exercises.

❀️ Supporting You Every Step of the Way

We know that caring for a pet following orthopaedic surgery can feel overwhelming.

How much should they walk? When can they use the stairs? Is their recovery progressing normally? What exercises should they be doing?

These are all common questions, and you won't be expected to navigate them alone!

Our team will work with you to provide advice, support and a rehabilitation plan tailored to your pet's needs.

✨ The Best Part? Rehabilitation Is Already Built Into Our Orthopaedic Packages!

We believe that recovery should be considered from the very beginning, rather than as an afterthought.

By incorporating post-operative rehabilitation into our surgical packages, we aim to provide a more comprehensive approach to orthopaedic care, supporting our patients beyond the operating theatre.

Because successful orthopaedic treatment isn't just about repairing an injury – it's about helping your pet regain comfort, confidence, mobility and quality of life. πŸΎπŸ’š

πŸ“ž If your pet requires orthopaedic surgery, or you'd like to learn more about our surgical and rehabilitation services, please contact our friendly team.

Bright Side Vets – caring for them through surgery, recovery and beyond. πŸ’š

🐾 St Francis of Assisi Day | 4th October 🐾

Today is the feast day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals β€” but for veterinary nurses, his image has a particularly special significance.

When a veterinary nurse becomes registered, they can wear the RVN badge featuring St Francis of Assisi, a symbol that has become closely associated with our profession. His image also forms part of the British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) logo, reflecting the values of compassion, care and respect for animals that sit at the heart of veterinary nursing.

But being a veterinary nurse is about far more than simply loving animals.

It is a skilled, evidence-based profession requiring clinical knowledge, technical ability, accountability and advocacy. We care for patients when they are at their most vulnerable β€” monitoring anaesthesia, managing pain, providing critical and inpatient care, supporting recovery and being a voice for patients who cannot speak for themselves.

Perhaps that is why the symbolism of St Francis remains so fitting.

He is remembered for his compassion towards animals and his respect for living things β€” values that veterinary nurses put into practice every single day, alongside the science and clinical expertise that underpin modern veterinary nursing.

So today, St Francis isn't only a familiar figure on our badge or professional association's logo. He is also a reminder of why our profession exists: to advocate for, protect and provide the very best care we can for the animals entrusted to us. πŸ’š

Happy St Francis of Assisi Day to veterinary nurses everywhere. 🐾
