Reggie š©µ
I always use positive reinforcement with him ( food/praise) when we are out walking.
When Reggie sees other dogs, moving traffic or different noises, this can make him nervous/reactive. I can read dog body language, which is very important when out & about.
He only wears the leather loosly because he is a very strong lad, & if he decides to lunge or pull, I can say his name to get his attention and have more control if I need to. This keeps him safe and myself. Loose lead walking is always used on all dogs that I walk.
Reggie had a very sheltered life in a garden before being seized by the RSPCA/POLICE.
I helped rehabilitate him, whilst being kennel supervisor at RSPCA burton branch.
Because of Reggies size, breed & age he doesn't need lots of exercise and the same route suits his mental wellbeing.
I have worked beside many Dog behaviourists and Dogs that have been through trauma can suffer mentally just like a human can. A simple life/routine suits Mr Reggie. š©µ
You have to think out of the box when it comes to rescue Dogs and work at the Dogs pace/ level. Not at a humans pace !! š
I have just completed a 2 year course with Bishop Burton University, studying Dog behaviour & Training, Level 4. Now awaiting my results !! š¤š¤
