CANINE COMPANIONS
A beautiful kind of magic happens quietly behind the scenes at our rescue.
As you know, we do far more than rescue and rehome dogs. We are actively fighting a quiet crisis in our local community: extreme loneliness and isolation among our elderly neighbours.
When a senior dog is displaced due to the death or illness of an owner, we know all to well that finding them a new family will be challenging due to the dogs age or age related illnesses.
Instead of seeking an unlikely adoption, we pair theses dogs with older residents in our community who are craving companionship.
The impact on their quality of life is immediate and profound. Suddenly, a lonely house is filled with joy, purpose, and unconditional love.
But this magic doesn't just happen on its own. Behind every single pairing is an incredible team carrying out home visits to ensure perfect matches, phone calls to check on vulnerable owners, paperwork to keep the scheme running, regular check-ins & of course; full practical responsibility for veterinary care, bills, grooming, and transport…
We offer this service completely FREE.
We also provide the ultimate safety net. If an elderly companion goes into the hospital or needs some respite, we step right back in to care for the dog until they are ready to return home. It is a total blanket of security for both human and hound.
Here you can see our senior boy Cricket, who is on the Canine Companions Scheme, enjoying a spa day out with our team. He enjoyed a shower and a professional nail trim followed by a trip to the pet shop to choose his own treats, before taking him back home to his loving human Nancy.
Next up, we are taking him to the vet to get a sore paw looked at.
This vital, unseen work keeps homes whole and fills lonely hearts. We do it quietly, constantly, and proudly.
But we cannot do it without you. If you believe in the positive effects this scheme gives our community, please like, share, or comment to help us keep this invisible magic alive✨
If you know anyone in our local area who you believe would benefit from joining our Canine Companions Scheme, please send us a private message to discuss the details. We’d love to hear from you.
